2009NT map update on Garmin C340

Folks,
I am planning on buying the 2009NT map update DVD for my Dad's Garmin C340. Is the update procedure similar to the Nuvi series? When I connect the C340 to my computer, it is not recognized as a Mass Storage Device (it does not show up as any drive under My Computer).
So I was wondering whether all I have to do is to connect the C340 to the computer and install the updated maps on the device and hopefully it will overwrite the existing maps. The reason for my concern is one guy over at gpspassion is complaining that he cannot update his internal maps due to lack of memory space on the device.
So if anyone has updated his/hers C340, please let me know.

I'm guessing here, but have you tried installing it using Mapsource? Seems that should work.

My best guess...
I was loading poi's to my friends' C340 - same observation as you that the unit does not mount.
However, the poiloader found the device and successfully loaded poi's.
The NT2009 literature states compatibility with the C340
When the 2009 NT update arrives, I am confident the mapinstaller will alert me that the map is too large, and present options as to what will fit.
I then plan to run mapinstall a second time to add those portions that do not fit to an SD card.
Internal memory space
Correct me if I am wrong ... I thought the internal memory space on the C340 is 2GB and should easily fit the new maps right ... 'cos the 2008NT maps loaded on it has US, Canada & Puerto Rico on the internal memory.

The NT2008 maps did not fit on the Cxxx units I updated, but I lost track of which models.
Load the drivers
If you haven't already, load the USB drivers that came with the unit. Otherwise, the machine may not properly handle the device.
You can download the drivers from garmin if you have lost the CD.

I was also wondering if the maps would fit ok on the c340 so I emailed Garmin here is the answer.

At this time, we are not aware of any issue with the 2009 mapping fitting on the c340. However, please bear in mind that the 2009 mapping has not yet been released on our web site yet.....
