Looking at a POI file/

I am new at gps and poi's. I have downloaded a few files to my cp and would like to see whats in the files before loading into my Garmin c550. I have downloaded a program called POIEDIT which works on some of the files,but others will not open due to error's. example(Casino USA). Thanks for any help.

I have found that the easiest way to look at a poi file is to open it up in EXCEL or Wordpad. Both can read and save .csv (comma separated) files. I have found problems with POIEDIT in reading files with four columns although they work perfectly well in the GPS.

I also look at them in notepad or excel. Either one can be used to edit - Just be sure to "save as" then alter the name so you will have the edited file and also you will have the original file intact.

Casino file
The casino file has just been updated for the USA as Of Feb 26 2007 so you will be able to load it in using poi edit if you want to look at whats in the file you need either Microsoft office with EXCEL or use word pad hope this helps
