POI Storage

I have downloaded about twenty POI in my garmin desktop folder. Is there a away to store them on my 260 instead of keeping them on my computer and use only the ones I want to and not have all the others be on alert when I only want to use two or three?

Yes but Why?

I guess you could create a folder inside the Nuvi and dump them there.

It will be taking up space inside the unit and I believe that to load them back to the Nuvi for use you will have to put them back in the PC and send them with POI loader.

Or to conserve space in the unit buy a cheap SD card and dump them there

.

If you look at the size of most POI's, you'll see that they are quite small in size compared to other files. They don't take up much drive space at all.

I'm just curious, not only the POI's do not take up much memory space, but also even if you leave them loaded on the GPSr, you won't even know that they are there unless you look for them. Why do you feel you need to store them separately?

POI Storage ( Is my Nuvi smarter than a fifth grader).

I have about 20 POI in my Garmin folder. I know that they are all listed under the Extra button after you load all of them in. I would like to turn on the ones I would like to use(Dunkin Donuts when I feel like a cup of coffee). Then turn DD off. In the Boston area there are DD on every conner. My 260 would be in the alert mode every 5 Mins. I would like to keep the Red Light POI on all the time. So, unless I put all the other POI back in their folder and use only the ones that I want for today it will work. I guess I am trying not to use my Laptop everyday and make the Nuvi do the work.
Is this possible?

No, you can't selectively turn them on and off in the unit. It's all or nothing.

But you don't have to load alerts for all your POIs, either. Just load alerts for the ones that you really want alerts for.

Personally, I find the alerts over rated

I use alerts for red light cameras and speed traps, but for all other things I find it annoying. If I am looking for a DD, I would select DD under extras and find the nearest ones. I can leave this screen up and select when I am ready.

I've never seen any reason to have alerts set for every restaurant and fast food joint in my POI's. I don't really care that I'm driving past a Chili's, I only want to be able to find one nearby at meal time. The only files in my alert folder are Red light/speed camera, Rest Areas, School zones, and time zones. All the rest are in my general POI folder, and none of those have alerts set.
