he didnt loose any, he just never had them.
if you type in a city from 1 of the southern states thers no problem, but if your looking for an address in them you wont get the state.

Canadian model perhaps?

Are you guys in Canada? Is this a Canadian purchased nüvi?

I believe that the 200 only has enough memory to load either Canada/Alaska or the lower 48. He will need to install the region not loaded on the unit to an SD card. He will then have access to both.

You can search the site for several threads concerning this to include how to install and how to access.

Canada?

That explains it, on a 200 you don’t get the whole shebang, if you buy it in the states you only get the 50 contiguous states, no Canada no Puerto Rico,

The ones purchased in Canada may only get the states closer to the border.

Or on a lighter side it could be that the Snow Birds season is closed till next year...

Southern Boy

I live in the south and have the southern states. He must be from up yonder.

yes we are in canada and i

yes we are in canada and i believe it was bought in canada

the 200 is a "regional" model.

Yep, that would be it then. The 250 is the North American model in that if you buy it anywhere in North America, then it comes with all the N.A. maps including all the USA and Canada.

The 200 is a "regional" model which only comes with maps to support which ever region it is sold. So if you buy it in the USA you get the USA only except Alaska. If you buy it in Canada, then you get Canada and the "border" US states. However I am not sure how they define "border" as it might be a bit more than only the ones that touch the US/Canadian border. It may also include the states that border the border states as well (e.g. Massachusetts, etc.).

Anyway, regardless of which states are included in the "border" states, certain Southern states like Texas are not included in a Canadian 200.

Sorry,

The US version has 49 states and Puerto Rico.

The US version has 49 states and Puerto Rico. Not Alaska or Canada. I loaded Alaska and Canada on my SD card.

The Canada version has Canada and the border states.

When I got the 2008 map DVD it gave me the option or choosing one or the other. It told me the 200 doesn't have enough internal memory for all North America.

if you dont mind me asking

if you dont mind me asking where did you get the cd for that.
isnt that expensive though?

I got the upgrade DVD from Garmin

I got the upgrade DVD from Garmin when it was released. It was $75 but I got it free since I bought my GPSr right before the new maps were released.

Yes...

City Nav North America NT is $139.27 US from the Garmin site. I didn't research it anywhere else.

This is something that should always be considered when buying a GPS unit. There is a reason why the 200 is less expensive than the 250 or 260, and now your friend knows what that reason is.

Do you

Do you have to buy the maps on the SD card? Couldn't you buy an upgrade disk cd and load part on the unit and the rest on the SD, like you could with the c330?

No enough flash installed

No. As pointed out above, the limiting factor is the amount of flash in the 200 vs. the 250. There are two spaces on the board for flash. The 200 has a single 1GB chip soldered and the other space is empty. The 250, I assume, either had both slots used or a larger IC in the single slot.

You could crack open the 200 and solder in additional flash I suspect. But SD cards are dirt cheap, so probably safer to load addition maps onto that instead.

But in the c330 you can't load all the us, just canada or lower 48. look at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/191.

Sorry, I misread your post that I replied to. My brain read it as "can't you just load the entire North American maps onto the unit" when instead you asked about using an SD card which I promptly missed and then answered your question to instead use an SD card. D'oh!
