Amusing story/mistake/warning

An amusing story that might remind someone not to make a similar mistake (and also the reason I want the nuvi to figure out by speed when I am clearly not a pedestrian).

Having used the nuvi in pedestrian mode for a few weeks, we drove off on Sat. on a route whose beginning we know very well. It kept giving us a different bridge (and one that was odd). Only then did my wife remind me that the nuvi was setup for pedestrian.

So another reason not to blindly follow and somehow to remember to set for car/ped/etc.

Interestingly, after about 5 minutes of driving, it did ask if I was in the wrong mode. But why at even manhattan street speeds it could not figure out that I could not be a pedestrian is beyond me.

A word to the wise (or unwise!).

Neal, it knew -- it just didn't want to embarrass you, and thus asked it as a question, rather than saying, "Hey dummy, you forgot to switch modes." smile

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

It learned from Karen

Yup, it learned from Karen that "recalculating" is much nicer than "you screwed up and missed that turn." One of the great joys of the nuvi.
