really?

really?

that would be...

That would be a nice idea for things like speed cameras and redlights cams......

Hmmmmm.. I wonder if Miss POI is reading this?

.

Personally, I'd rather see the resources of the site go to other things rather than having RSS feeds taxing the site.

Plus we WANT you to come back often and check on things. : )

Sometime in the next 36 hours

Sometime in the next 36 hours the "RestAreasCombined" POI file
will reach the 10,000 download since it's release in mid-October.
It has had 3 updates since that time.

I'd like to thank all the users who have sent me additions, deletions,
corrections and other suggestions.

I think it has been a worthwhile project !

Probably another update coming up in a couple of weeks.
Right now the Master file has 1834 "locations"

Miss POI reads everything wink We are limited by the software that we use on the site. The red light and speed files are updated every Wednesday so you can just come check the recent updates page to see if your state has been affected.

Miss POI

What about those POI files

What about those POI files that arent updated often but would be nice to check on if they ever are changed?

POI Updates highlight or notification - A good Idea

I cannot help but to agree that a means of knowing that a POI file has been recently updated would be nice, maybe the easiest way would be to add an other way of "listing" the POIs. Right now, you can view the entire list alphabetically here: http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/alpha , maybe you could also have a page that lists them by the date of the most recent updates... That would bring people to the site regularly to see if their favorite POIs have been updated and offer an easy way to see how long it's been since that last update...

Already Exists

You can come back at least once a week and check the existing page:
http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/recent

Just a thought

But what if we could have an "unread post" feature for the poi files.

Love these Ideas

Having the option to list the POIs by date would be great. That way I could check before I go on a trip whether I need to update my current POI library on my GPS. Marking them as "Unread Posts" where I could filter out all but the Unread would be ideal. Though I do not know if that one is possible.

Miss POI, thanks for even considering these ideas. This site and especially the monitors are wonderful!

Not always visiting weekly

Unfortunately, I can not necessarily come back every week. I often travel on locations where I do not have access to the Internet for extended periods of time and correct me if I am wrong but the "recent" area only keeps a set number of the most recent POIs so it is quite possible that on a busy week, POIs posted earlier in the week have dropped out of this page...

.

That page shows files that have been updated in the last seven days.

The updated page

Many of us feel that this is broken, we are looking for something better.

.

I get that. And I'm trying not to express my opinion beyond what I've already said. I was just responding to the post directly above mine which asked if the list only kept a certain number of files (which it doesn't) and if files would get knocked off that list in a particularly busy week (which they won't).

do what i do

Just go to the page that your POI is on. Then bookmark it.

Whenever you're on the internet, click on the Favorites, and then look at the update date of the file.

I have a Favorites folder named POI. 2 seconds and I know what's been updated.

61 files=more than 2 seconds

I think you are saying that you would click on the webpage for each file. How many files do you have that you could do that in 2 seconds? I have 61 files. The best thing for me would be if I could register for email alerts whenever there is an update.

Are there any other opinions

Are there any other opinions on whether or not to implement a POI notification on the site or suggestions on how to create a system for POI notifications?

I dont want to let this topic die without input from more people.

POI notifications

I agree it would be nice to have a process in place to notify members of Poi files that have been updated.A suggestion was made in reference to the Poi files that are listed alphabeticaly. This would be a good place to start by adding the last date the file was updated.

POI Notifications

I go to the recent post everyother day and it will show what new poi files have been posted. Not sure how miss poi would keep on top of it if she had to post a new update each time one is updated with all the new and updates coming in everyday. I think it would be nice to have each poi that you have built or helped update be put on your profile that way there would be no need to keep a seperat record of all the ones you have done. (especially when some have done a large number of poi's) just a thought.

Possibility...

This would work as long as those POI listings had the latest date that the POI was updated listed as well. Without that, I would still need to check each and every POI that I downloaded to compare to the one listed in my profile.

I was wondering if I should

I was wondering if I should keep this thread alive. It would be nice to not have to check each POI that you download. Maybe have a list of subscribed POI's so that your subscribed list can show dates of last update.

bookmark POIs

Some POIs dont need updating often at all, like lighthouses, covered bridges, etc. The POIs that I am interested in (rest sotps) getting updates of, I just bookmark the webpage, return from time to time and check the date of the updated file. Takes me only seconds to find out. Ben doing it that way for months now. I get enough emails. Sending out updates would reduce the POI Factory website's bandwidth too.
