I came across a software today for deleting duplicate POI entries. You can set the distance between POIs before they are considered duplicates. I haven't used it yet, but thought someone might want to give it a try. It is open source.

Well, these are my findings:
1) Will only allow duplicates within 500m
2) Did not blow up my PC or crash Windows XP
3) Does add a column at the end of an entry -
"Idx:1;Dist:0.62"
I took a POI file, copied it into a test.csv and ran it, after creating a duplicate (fudging the LAT/LON slightly to yield the above results).
I did not set it to overwrite.
It would be interesting to run it against my Garden State Parkway speed trap POIs. My file is an update of the POI here, but I added mile markings and also added north and southbound traps. Some of the traps are across the center median, and I would think easily within 20-30 meters of each other. There are a lot of entries (hundreds). I wonder how long it would take?
I'll do it tonight and post further findings.
