Cleaning the beanbag

Just to pass on this info:

After about 6 months, my C530 on the beanbag mount started sliding around (and off of) the dash on turns. The bottom didn't feel tacky anymore, and I suspected it had become coated with a layer of fine dust.

Garmin support suggested cleaning it with a mild hand soap.

I rubbed the bottom surface lightly with a paper towel moistened with warm water and a squirt of liquid Dial, then rinsed it under the faucet and dabbed dry.

It has made a world of difference! I've tried a few intentionally hard turns, and no sliding at all.

Slippin' and slidin'

Thanks for the heads up. I've had the beanbag for about six months and it hasn't caused any problems for me yet, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

Sliding beanbag

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a problem yet, but will know what to do when it occurs.

If you do the same with the

If you do the same with the suction cup (clean it very well as well as the glass), it will solve most suction cup issues as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been storing my beanbag under my seat for over 6 months now without a problem. I'm going to clean it every 6 months to be on the safe side. One never knows when an emergency maneuver may strike.

Good simple advise. Thanks for the post. How can you go wrong cleaning something.

Another Tip

One thing I learned after using my bean bag mount with my previous StreetPilot III, is to wipe the dash before I use the bag. I keep a soft cloth under my front seat and before I use the bean bag I just wipe off the dust from my dash. My StreetPilot was like a little brick on my dash and this helped keep the bag from getting dirty so soon.

Now with my 680 I still wipe my dash just before I put the bag on the dash. It really helps the bag last longer.

Just a thought.

THANK YOU!!

My bean bag mount started sliding around a month ago. I'll try the wash with a bit of dial, but I have a question.

When you say Dial, are you talking about Dial dishwashing soap or hand soap?

Thanks!

Cleaning things

And some of you people, clean your cars, too! Today I parked at work and for some reason I glanced in the car parked next to me, and amongst the papers, garbage, and debris in the pax seat and cntr console, saw a Streetpilot burning up in the sun. Please take care of your GPS or the GPS police will find you! wink

Non-slip shelf/drawer liner

Because of the curvature of the dash on my Sienna, the beanbag tends to slide off to the right. I use a small piece just big enough for the beanbag. Problem solved.

Small peice of what, exactly?

That's where mine spends the night and whenever parked in other than the garage. No problem after 3+ months. But I'm wondering if a stiff brush across the bottom of the beanbag mount every so often would work.

Several ways

There are several ways to clean the non slip material on the beanbag,
use a touch of dawn dish soap and then dry it
use a touch of alchol, NOT BEER like isoproyple or something similar just something to get the dust and dirt off it.
