How to determine total miles?

Hi,
Does anyone know an easier way to know, how many miles i will be travelling, if I put an address into my nuvi 680. Right now I have to go through all the directions (on the bottom right of the device and see the last direction to see total miles to be travelled)

Although the time does display when i will arrive, but after how many miles becomes a big question, on deciding if I want to travel or not.

Thanks a lot.

I do not have my GPS in

I do not have my GPS in front of me but, I think if you go to recently viewed locations under 'my locations' it will show the distance from where you are at.

A better way

If you go to the Trip Screen, lower left corner, it will pull a speedometer. On the right of that you will see two numbers. One is the miles to go, and the other is the miles you have driven.

So by glancing at that top number you can see how far to the final destination.

Dkeane is Correct

If you don't understand what Dkeane said, I have a 680 and this is what you do:

- After putting in where to, your screen will be up
- In the lower left, there is "Arrival Time" - push on it.
- In the upper right you will see the miles to get there

If you are currently on a route, you can press the green bar at the top of the map screen and then press the "Show Map" button to see the number of miles.

On my 680, if you press the green bar at the top you will see all your turns, etc with the mileage for each segment. However, if you hit "Show Map", it doesn't give you the miles (at least on the 680).

Really? That's too bad. It shows on other models. What does it show at the bottom of the map on this screen?

I Wish it Did

On the 680, when you hit the green bar on top and then show map, it only shows the route on the map. At the bottom, it shows a back button on the left and an empty blue bar. Maybe it's because I'm sitting here in front of my PC and not actually moving. I will try it out in the car later and see if this way works as well. Sure hope it does.

Nope.

It doesn't change in the car. Stays just as you described it.

no total miles, just scale

Yeah, on the 350 it doesn't show the mileage either. Just the scale.

Just for clarity, I don't mean on the regular map screen. I'm talking about when you are on a route. Pressing the green bar at the top of the screen to get the list of directions and then press the "Show Map" button.

Here's what it looks like on the Zumo.

Apparently not, the nuvi350

Apparently not, the nuvi350 doesn't have anything like that neither does the c530.

btw, never used tinypic, pretty cool.

Oh, wow. Well, sorry for misleading everyone. And sorry you don't have that feature in your firmware.

(And yeah, I love tinypic for the quick picture links. It gives you everything you need. And the links, supposedly never expire.)

Last time for me to get off

Last time for me to get off topic (yeah, right), but how big of files can you upload?

btw, my screenshot works differently on the nuvi then on my c530. I never used it on the c530 cause it crowded up my screen with a useless icon, the nuvi doesn't do that. I just have to click the power button and it takes the pic.

They have a limit for images but they don't specify what it is because they just resize the image if it's too big. Sometimes this doesn't give you a good image if it resizes it too much. But it works great for the screenshots.

The limit for video files is 100MB and 5 minutes.

I use box.net for files I want to share that I want better control over. It works great and is easy to use.

Total Miles

I use a 660 and believe and the 680 to be the same save the MSN you have. I’ve a different traffic deal. I’m jealous of your MSN! Anyway, to get to the miles, go to system and turn on Simulator. Then run your address or destination. Instead of trying to mess with the directions in the bottom right, try tapping the green top of the screen. It gives you a much faster turn by turn, and when you get to the destination, tap the last turn showing and it will display the total miles.
Doing it just by typing in an address is not to accurate, since the mileage is pretty much figured by as the crow flies.
Hope this helps.

How to determin total miles

Hello All,

Motorcycle Mama is right!!

My Nuvi 750 works the same way.

If you avtivate a route and you hit the GREEN BAR at the top of the screen, you will see all the turns. But you also have SHOW MAP on the bar at the bottom of the screen, and when you hit SHOW MAP the total route left show up on the screen, and the bar at the botom shows the DISTANCE LEFT (MILES) abd the approximate Arival time.

Summary

So, to summarize, it seems that the total distance on the map screen (after pressing the green bar at the top after entering a route) is only on...

7xx models, 6xx, and zumos
not on...
C5xx, nuvi 3xx, and the nuvi 2xx

Not on 6xx models

No, the 6xx models don't do it.

No Distance on 650 "Show Map" :-(

This is what the "Show Map" screen looks like on a 650:

And maybe my post above doesn't show up on your computer. The 200 has it. I'll send you a screen shot if someone will give me instructions on how to do that.

Oops, I thought I read that the 2xx didn't have it and the 6xx did, perhaps I got it backwards...sorry

something similar

You can get something similar to what MM has. Should work on the street pilot and nuvi series.

Press the "Turn in" box, you will get the time and miles to the next turn...don't have my unit handy, but if one were to scroll to the last turn, it should give the time (eta) and (total) miles.

Not as slick as the zumo but similar info.

On the c530 all you do is pick a destination>>>

hit GO and then switch over to the trip computer dashboard and look at the top right it tells you how many road miles to go as opposed to "as the crow flies" just reading the favorites list.

my nuvi 350 does the same thing as TMK's c530

Thanks for all the input's

Hi all,
Thanks for all the comments and inputs, perhaps it would have been a lot easier if there was a small indicating total miles to travel or total miles left, especially if the less cheaper models of magellan have it.

Great discussion as always fella's , you guys have everything figured out..

Take care and happy easter to all...
