Customer Service -- Stolen GPS!

I know its been said before, but Garmin has the best customer service ever.

I called them up today because I needed a replacement mount. They are dropping one in the mail at no charge.

And if this isnt enough, the lady informed me that If I have my GPS locked, and someone steals it.

If the thief calls garmin and asks for help unlocking it, Garmin will say "No Problem, send it back, and we'll unlock it and mail it back to you."

Then garmin will mail the unit back to the registered owner... ME!

Garmin is the Shizzle...

Garmin Rocks

They do a nice job of customer service with a focus on the customer (what a concept - don't you wish all companies did that?). I hope your Nuvi 350 is never stoles so that you do not need to go through the return process, but I am sure they would take care of you...

Garmin

I agree, I've had nothing but good luck with them.

Possibility for abuse?

I hope this isn't abused. After all, I could sell my Nuvi on ebay. The new owner wouldn't normally register a used GPS. Then one day playing around with the unit they lock it up, don't realize if they go back to the McDonalds they locked it while playing with it over lunch they could unlock and don't know what code they put in there (or forgot, or thought they put in one code buy typo'd in another).

So they call Garmin, no problem, send it back, then one day my old nüvi shows up in the mail. Now me being an honest person would report the mistake to Garmin. However I am sure there are many other people who may not and resell it on ebay. Heck they might get it back again later!

Of course the whole point of this story is to show that a GPS could change hands, many times, all legally and Garmin would never know. So Garmin's policy of sending the unit back to the "registered" owner may have been several owners ago and could get Garmin in trouble for "stealing" people's GPS units.

All the more reason to

All the more reason to register your unit with Garmin. I've transferred ownership of two units already. Just a phone call away.

Cheers!

stolen gps

It makes a lot of sense to register any purchased item. As often mentioned on this thread it pays to purchase a beanbag mount to eliminate the teletale ring on your windshield.

Register used GPS?

Anyone know what happens if you try to register a used GPS? I may give mine to my kid and tell them to register it under their name so they would be informed of updates. Will Garmin let them register it if the serial number has already been registered?

you people are silly, if we really knew what happens behind the scenes with a situation like this....

Transferred?

Did you transfer ownership as the new or old owner? Must the original owner do the transfer/re-registration?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I returned one

When i did, i called them and told them of the situation and all they did was unregerster it so that the next person could register it,

Great Customer Service

I've also had great customer service when I had an issue with the window mount a year and a half ago. It's nice to know that Garmin is doing its part to help reunite stolen GPSs with their rightful owners.

It's a lot easier to quickly dust your dashboard off once in a while, than to wash your windshield off all the time-

You can also put your beanbag on the console, and let it talk you through the turns. --You don't always have to look at it.

Abuse?

When you sell the unit to someone on ebay make sure you tell them to register it with garmin or they may send it back to the original owner! Which you can then re-sell it on ebay! razz

very nice infor

Thanks for this useful information. I need to register for my Garmin ASAP.

Does Garmin require proof when transferring ownership?

Does Garmin need any sort of proof that you're selling a used GPS when transferring registration?
