Nuvi 660 vs nuvi 760

Unsure which one to buy. What are the differences? Is 368.00 a good deal on the 660?

.

You can do a comparison on Garmin's website.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=134&compare=compa...

The biggest difference is that the 7xx series supports stored routes and auto sorting of multiple waypoints in a route.

The 760 also has a QWERTY keyboard.

The 760 also supports MSN Direct in the US and has the "Where Am I" and car locator features.

Sounds Like A Good Price To Me

I paid $361 for mine on eBay a month ago + shipping. Prices on the 660 have been coming down, which is why I waited to buy. I went with the 660 since this was my 1st GPS and not being on the road a lot, didn't think I would miss the features of the 760. I very happy with the unit... except for the poor performance of the FM transmitter. I'm not sure that the 760's transmitter would be any better.

It ain't! To the original poster, YES, that is an excellent price for that very fine device.

Have 750, will travel

My personal favorite about the 7xx series is the lack of flip-out antenna that I find annoying.

nüvi 750 & 760

Nuvi 7xx

Agree the lack of a flip up antenna is very good but I do find that the sensitivity of the antenna is better on the 6xx series than the 7XX

.

I have both the 660 and the 760. I like the 660, but got the 760 for the routes. The other changes, like the keyboard, were added benefit to the 760. I really noticed how I liked some of the many other subtle changes when I went back to the 660 for a trip out of town. The QWERTY keyboard is a real nice feature that I quickly grew used to and miss on the 660. I have no complaints with the reception of either one. I aquire signal in less than a minute every day and the accuracy is under 20 feet most of the time. The lack of a flip up antenna and the thinner case are also nice changes. I can run them side by side and find them to both perform almost identically. They are both great units.

I like My Nuvi 660

Since I don't know what "route" means, I don't miss it. Can't miss something I don't have, I do miss the dollar that I would fork out. I wish 660's FM transmitter works better. This seems to be drawing most of the negative comments. I don't know anything about 760.

Routes

Routes are paths you develop yourself to reach a destination when you don't want to use the one the device develops for you. Best way to do it is in Mapsource - then d/l to the unit. An example is that when I visit my daughter during holidays, I don't want to use interstates. So, using Mapsource, I developed a "back way" to her house, and save it on my 750. There are many twists and turns in this route, but the device follows the entire route flawlessly.
FM transmitters have limited output power, and this output is regulated by the FCC. Europeans don't have this problem, because their units have a much higher output level - BUT - they have to license their FM transmitters. There is a long conversation on this forum about FM transmitters, and the many devices that can be used to overcome the problems of weak signal strength. If you search for "FM Transmitters", I'm sure you'll find it, and the many solutions suggested.

Nuvi 7xx vs 6xx

Lots of great features on the 7xx series that the 6xx series should have had. As far as the antenna is concerned I do see a difference with the flip up antenna being somewhat better but not enough to overcome the advantage of no flip up.

I got no signal with new 2** series in my house.

I assume the 7** is the same thing.

Three Bars

I get 3 green bars inside my house, as long as the 750 is close to a window. Don't, however, navigate much in the house, as I know where everything is.
surprised

660 vs 760

So it sounds like the 760 is the newest and "bettr" unit?

The 700 series was the

The 700 series was the newest series. The 780 is the newest of the 700 now.

Now, the 800 series is the newest, I guess. There is also the 5000 (5.2" screen) and the 2 7" screens.

The 780 is essentially the 760 with MSN Direct. I bought the 760 and bought MSN Direct. The 750 is primarily the 760 minus bluetooth.

I like the looks of the 5000 now, but it doesn't have a battery. It only runs if it is plugged in. When I think about it, I typically don't use it unless it is plugged into the power outlet of the car, but it is nice every now and then to be able to use it outside the car. Guess you can use it when it is plugged into the USB port of the computer. I like the bigger screen as I can see it a little better, but I already have the 760, which I am extremely happy with. Plus, don't want to spend extra money I don't have hahaha

Gosh, I gotta have a

Gosh, I gotta have a battery. Like you, I don't use it much with the battery, but there are times when I do, such as trying to find my car in a parking lot or when I am in a big park and want to know which way is the enterance.

OMG, my mother (an english teacher) would kill me if she saw that long run-on sentence.

I really like my 660

I have just traveled cross country using the 660 I bought Black Friday of last year and couldn't be happier with it. I am sure that I would like some of the new features that are included on the 760, but the 660 did an amazing job of finding everything I asked of it even in out of the way places. I use the internal speaker so the FM transmitter is not a problem for me. I have found that the traffic information is much better than some give it credit for. While near San Francisco, traffic delays built quickly and the 660 sent me off on side roads and such that totally avoided the sometimes 45~65 minute delays that were on the freeways. It has come down in price considerably and I think that is probably pretty reasonable, but I believe I have seen it for about $40 cheaper. I would tell you to buy the bean bag holder for whatever you get. I used the suction mount on my trip from Atlanta to San Francisco and used the bean bag on the way back and there is no way I would ever use the suction mount again. The bean bag sat comfortably on my dash and didn't move once the entire trip back.

newbie here

FWIW the nuvi660 was $330 on Amazon couple 'o days ago.

Got mine for $349...

What, me lost?

Depends

Depends what you will use it for. If you don't think you'll use it to plan routes, the 660 would be your best bet (and a savings of $). If you want to use the routes feature, the 7XX is the only Nuvi series (thus far) that will do that. The 660 is a great unit. I went from a 350 to a 750, so for me, it was a leap from small screen, no routing, to a larger screen, with routing capability. I'm very happy with the 750.
