Tryin to add addresses to my poi's

I know this question has been asked before and i have read the forums on it.I am trying this out for the first time, i may be slow or doing something wrong but please bear with me.What i am trying to do is add the street address and telephone numbers to the list of poi's.I am compiling a list of computer stores in Winnipeg and so far this is what i have learned.I searched for locations on google earth and saved the files in my places. Then saved the files as a .kml file. Then i open the .kml file using a spreadsheet program. The program i used is Openoffice.org.Now from what i read it is supposed to open as a spreadsheet but it opens as a .xml file.Is that correct? Also i converted the .kml file using POI edit to a .csv.That file opened in the spreadsheet. So now i am at a loss as how to add my addresses to the poi's.Please help.

The .csv and .xml are speadsheets. do you see boxes with your data in it?

I don't think Garmin format

I don't think Garmin format "requires" the 4th column, but all may not be lost. What's in the 3rd column? just the name? If so, bad news. If there's more, it can probably be separated out fairly easily.

Adding addresses

I have col-1 lat col-2 lon col-3 name and col-4 address with phone number.
Does this help? You can type in that info

Yes, just the name in the 3rd line.no address, no phone number.I was thinking all that info would be there when i saved the.kml file.

I think you have lat and lon reversed.

Program

There is also a program out there on the net call POI Harvester. This program is the poop. type in a name of whatcha lookin' for, a zip code then the miles around it and it'll pull all that data in for you. The only thing is you'll have to edit it, move the lat and lon. It also saves it as a csv file.

If your original file is still available

If your original file is still available you can try to import it into a spreadsheet, such as excel and then it should have the correct items in the columns. You can then save it as a csv file. If they are all in the same column just use the DATA >> TEXT TO COLUMNS choice on the menu to separate the one column into 3 or 4.

.

Just be sure that you don't load the files that you create from it to the site here. Personal use only due to the source of the data from POI Harvester.

GeePeeEx Editor can handle that :-)

What I am trying to do is add the street address and telephone numbers to the list of POIs. I am compiling a list of computer stores in Winnipeg

  1. In Google Earth, Find: "Computer stores,Winnipeg"
  2. Save As... "Temp.kml"
  3. In GeePeeEx Editor - Open "Temp.kml"
  4. F8 - Batch Geocoder
  5. Select "Update with returned Address information"
  6. Store all returned data? = Yes
  7. Save file as "Computer Stores.gpx"
  8. Load with POI Loader

Sample o/p (StreetPilot C510)

Sample o/p Nüvi 310
arrow http://geepeeex.googlepages.com/N310ComputerStores.jpg
(Notice 'dialable' phone number!)

Resulting .gpx file
arrow http://geepeeex.googlepages.com/ComputerstoresWinnipeg.gpx

(do right-click "Save Target as..."), otherwise will probably display in Browser.

In this application, Geocoding isn't strictly necessary, it's just being used to convert Goodle Earth's free form text, into Garmin's pre-defined display fields.

There is a slight fly-in-the-ointment, in that the Yahoo! geocoder loses the second part of Canadian (and UK) post codes.
