I'm new here, but I was wondering... is there a way to find the coordinates of a known location online using satellite imagery or something like that? That way you could create poi files without actually traveling to a specific location. Thanks.
Google Earth
I find Google Earth the best method.

Istallation?
Does that require you to install software? I haven't used it before.

The FAQs here are very informative. This page has a link for how to use Google Earth and how to find coordinates based on address if that's what you're looking for. Keep in mind that with Google Earth, the satellite imagery can be off compared to the actual roads. I found this to be the case in the area I live.

Hi colonelpenguin,
Welcome to the site...
As a new member, you need to familiarize yourself with this site. Read the "Getting Started" and "FAQ" links at the top of the page. Use the "Search" feature to find information "before" you post a message to the site. Most questions have already been asked and/or answered.
When I typed in the search term "coordinates" (without the quotes) it returned 72 pages on the subject.

I can say that Google Earth is very accurate. I have created a custom POI file of my customers and from South Carolina, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio and a few others, are right on.
