Garmin needs

I wish my Nuvi had the capabability to set a switch on how many times an alarm would go off.

Say I had a rest stop on an interstate.. from the rest stop file...

Then I could set up say 2,000 feet for the alram to go off and then set this other switch for it to go off only one time. I could set the switch to any number I guess... but I would like to be able to set it to 1.

Is there some way for this to be done now?

Slide switch mute?

Well if you wanted to go to a lot of trouble, you could set up the Custom POI to sort of fake it. You would have to first reset the coordinates so that the rest stop, on the GPS, appears 2000 feet before it's actual location. Then when you set up the alerts, set them up for whatever minimum distance is possible.

The idea being that it will go off when you get to that spot, but stop after you pass it (which should be quick since you set up a very short distance alert) then 2000 feet later, there's your offramp.

Of course that is a LOT of work. So instead you may find your unit MUTES when you slide the power switch on top over to the HOLD/LOCK position. At least it works that way on my nuvi 200. If I slide it to the lock position (opposite the ON/OFF toggle side) the unit is muted. Slide it back when you pass the alarm.

Why not create a custom mp3 alert with one bong and 40 seconds of no sound. I would expect it to play once and you should be past the location before it is ready to play again.

If his Garmin supports audio files...

There is a good idea. Although it requires the original poster to have a model that supports MP3 files (he doesn't have any listen in his signature/profile).

My Nuvi 200, for example, does not support sound files, only the built in alarm sounds.

Actually, in his profile, he has the nuvi 350 which supports mp3s, so i think that is a great solution for the sound, but I still have issues where when you are on the speedometer screen, the alert shows twice. Which covers up the speed!!!
