Problem loading MapSource to my computer

I have a MapSource DVD that was provided to me from Garmin several months ago, which was previously loaded on my laptop. It worked fine and I've used it many times setting up waypoints etc. Now my dilemma!

My laptop is on the blink, so I'm trying now to download my original MapSource DVD to my new desktop computer.

It loads up, but I can't use it and get the following message.

"Access was denied when MapSource tried to read from the registry. Please consult your system administrator and start MapSouce again."

Anyone know a fix for this? Thanx

I think Mapsource can only

I think Mapsource can only be loaded on 1 computer. If you want to load it on another computer, I think you have to get another CD. I think this is what I have been told.

MapSource on a single

MapSource on a single computer is a licensing restriction, not a physical one. The error message you're getting sounds like a system administration issue, where MapSource has not been given permission to access the registry. In fact, it sounds like this would be on Windows Vista, which contains this level of access security.

As to the fix, that would be beyond the scope of a conversation here, and might expose your system to attacks by malicious software.

I'd talk to Garmin about it, as they will offer the best solution.

EULA

The EULA says:
"YOU MAY:
a) install and use one copy of the Product on a single computer or network."

Therefore, the suggested workaround is a method of violating the EULA.

.

The error message that the OP is getting relates to not being set up as an administrator on the computer on which he is attempting to install the program.

To the OP, you need to change the permission settings on your computer to allow installation of software.

This isn't a MapSource issue.

I am a staunch supporter of following the EULA. Typically, Garmin's position has been that you can install it on another computer that you own provided that not more than one computer is using the software at the same time.

Who the heck is EULA

Whether EULA like it or not it is OK to install the DVD in as many computers as you wish, the requirement is that you have an unlock code that is associated with your unit.

I loaded using my DVD the map into my buddy's PC using an unlock code that he got from the Garmin website.

I haven't tested this part but believe that his map is associated with his Nuvi and mine associated with my Nuvi.

Nowhere on the DVD or the cover indicates that is to be used on one computer.

As far as the DVD stopping you from loading in multiple computers, that is not possible since the DVD doesn't keep track how many times it has been used.

Sorry

I'm afraid that is not where EULA's reside. Look one more time and I'm sure you will find a folder on the DVD called "Support". Within that folder is another folder called EULA and within that folder resides a file named EULA_ENU.txt . That is the agreement to which you agreed when you installed the software. It is that text file from which I quoted.
