Alerts for only some POIs?

If you are adding custom POIs can you setup the alerts to only pop up for some of them?

I have a 650 and 750 and I only see a choice to turn on or off alerts for customs POIs. I don't want alerts for most of them but it would be nice to have them in the unit in case I need them. On the other hand I would want them for red-light cameras.

.

The alerts cannot be variably selected on the unit. It's either all or nothing.

However, you don't need to set alerts for all your POIs. Regular POIs don't alert by default. They will only alert if you set an alert. So if you don't want to be alerted, don't set an alert. But once the alert is set, you can't turn selectively them on or off on the unit.

The redlight file will alert by default.

I'm sure on my "learner's

I'm sure on my "learner's permit" so take this for what it is!
I believe you can control what poi's give an alert by how you name the csv file. If the name does not contain one of the key words of "speed" or "redlight", then you shouldn't get an alert unless set manually via poi loader.
So if I name a file "my location.csv" no alert should occur. Name the file "my location speed_35.csv" A one-time alert would occur approx 1/4 mi from the location. If you stay under 35, no further alerts.... over 35 they continue until past the location.
Name the file "my location redlight.csv" You'll get an alert approx. 1/4 mi. in advance.
I found my 650 will give alerts when in both the map & nac. mode and at any zoom level. Also gives alerts when in 3D. This isn't true for all models

That's correct

... plus other words. See the 'Help' section of POI Loader.

You can also set different speed alerts in individual lines within the POI file by putting @mph on selected lines. Example:
Johnson High School@15 will create a 15 mph alert for that line only.

Alerts for only some POIs?

So if I load the red-light file and another file of some retail store locations, it will only give me an alert on the red-light locations? I don't want pop ups every time I drive by a Best Buy or whatever.

if you load them in manual

if you load them in manual mode, then you can set the alert (or not) as you please.

Alerts for only some POIs?

So I just put the various csv files in the same folder and using POI loader it will give me the option to turn on the alert for each set of POIs?

POI alerts

Only if you load them by the manual method!

what your saying, like... Johnson_High_School@15.csv. or is Johnson_High_School@15 an additional line to the file name?
You have to get elementary with some people. grin

No

Unless their individual file names dictate a specific alert that supersedes the manual loading options, all csv files manually loaded together into a single gpi will have the same alert. You would have to load the files individually (or by categories) and rename the resulting gpi's as you go, to manually set different alerts.

.

From the POI Loader Help file ....

---------------------------------------------
Express mode is ideal for loading Custom POIs that do not contain speed information (for example, restaurants, public swimming pools, or ATMs) or Custom POIs containing speed information that you do not need to modify.

If there is speed and proximity alert information contained in your data files, POI Loader can automatically detect it by looking for key information. POI Loader checks the file name for valid speed information and keywords to indicate proximity alerts (for example, "redlight," "camera," or "safety"). If the speed or proximity information in the data file is missing or incomplete, POI Loader assumes the file is a regular POI file.

If you need to customize speed information for your Custom POIs, use Manual mode. Manual mode allows you to specify the default speed and proximity alert information as needed for each data file you are loading. You can use Manual mode to override the default speed and proximity information included in the file names of the data files you are loading. For example, if you are loading a file named "Speed_30," but you want the default speed to be 25, you can enter a speed of 25 in Manual mode.
----------------------------------------

So, if you only want alerts for POIs that contain alert information already, then you can use Express Mode and only those alerts will be set.

Alerts set on priority basis

We're speaking of a specific line within the POI; i.e.:
-94.79731,38.81099,Ridgeview@25

Assumming no other alerts are set, this one line only within the csv POI file will have a 25 mph alert.

In addition, alerts are set on a priority basis:

POI Loader determines speed information based on the following information, listed from highest to lowest priority:
From POI Loader
1. Speed information included in the name of the individual Custom POI. For example, a POI named "SpeedZone@30" will have an alert speed of 30 regardless of the speed information specified in Manual mode or in the file name.

2. Speed information entered in Manual mode.

3. Speed information included in the file name. POI Loader interprets any numbers in the file name as speed information.

This means the manual setting will not override the example shown above.

I would suggest reading all of the help section in POI Loader that pertains to alerts.
