Red Light Alert Mp3

I put a Voice Mp3 (#7) alert on my SD card with the locations. Should I be able to hear it with only the Mp3 player? I look in the Mp3 file and cannot find it, or is it hidden in the .gpi files? I just wanted to see how it was going to sound. I am not doing a hard install of these files on my 660.

It is hidden within the gpi file, but you can put the 660 into simulated mode and make a run past a location.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I Would...............

but I am so far away from any location it would take forever. I'll just wait and drive through them. I'm sure it'll work. If not, just try again......to old to sweat it! grin grin

If the original mp3 file is

If the original mp3 file is on the SD card, you should be able to hear it on the mp3 player. I keep all my POIs and associated files on the sd card and I can listen to the alert.

Asianfire, I Sure.........

can't hear it. I put the RL locations and the Mp3 file into one folder, and loaded them on the SD at the same time. From previous post, I surmised that you loaded your location into your 350's permanent. If so, maybe that makes a difference in hearing them. Being on a card, I can't go back, search it and play a file.

Ok, when you say that you

Ok, when you say that you put it on the sd card, do you mean through the uploader? Or did you copy the raw files to the sd card?

If you meant the raw files, then you should be able to browse to the sd card through the mp3 player and play it. If you mean that you "uploaded" the files, then no you can't hear it.

I Loaded...........

it on the SD card with the red light locations and mp3 sound in one file folder, using the POI loader. Should I just copy the sound file over to the SD card?

.

Robert, the MP3 files will not show up as separate files on your nuvi. You can test the alerts without physically driving past them, though.

Turn the GPS receiver function of your nuvi off. On the 660, I believe that you do this by closing the antenna. Then browse the map and pan to an area near one of the locations you want to test. You should see a button on the screen that reads "Set Loc." If you press that button, your current location will be set as the location where your pointer is. Then pan the map again to a point slightly past the POI location you want to test and press Go!. The unit should ask you if you want to simulate driving the route. Select Yes and the route should be simulated and should take you past the POI location and the alert should sound.

Thanks MM...

I'll give that a try. Their really not that important to me. I just thought it may "impress" someone someday. grin
If you just drag it over and drop it onto the SD card, it will still need the .csv extension won't it? Like Redlight-Camera.csv?

Yeah, if you loaded it with

Yeah, if you loaded it with the uploader, then you can't hear it. Why don't you just go through windows explorer and browse to to the raw file and double click it, it should then play in media player or whatever your default player is.

Edit: wahat MM said works too.

I'm not so sure it will work that way Robert.

put the mp3 in the same folder as your

Redlight-Camera.csv — and rename it to
Redlight-Camera.mp3 — add a bmp and rename it
Redlight-Camera.bmp

then load the entire batch via poi loader.

Loading via poi loader will integrate the bmp (if desired) and mp3 (if desired) and csv (or gpx) into one gpi file.
It just won't recognize an mp3 by itself and associate it with your desired redlight camera file, and give you the desired result.

Ismonop I Think.......

I understand what your saying, but I have two files in my folder. (1) is Redlight_Camera.csv, and (1) is Redlight_Camera.mp3. I installed both of them with the POI loader. I went through some intersections this morning to test out the files and they worked ok. I don't feel I need the .bmp. I think we are on the same train of thought.

roger that

Just making sure you got the mp3 to work...I added the bmp bit for other readers with a similar situation.

Glad it's workin for ya.

I Made...

my Redlight files at another web site. It is super easy. All you have to do is give the address, and it finds the coordinates, shows them on a map. You save, and hit a button to add to your GPS or other device. I never saw anything so easy. Errors can't be made.

I am not so sure about that,

I am not so sure about that, I can always find a way to mess up something...lol
