I have a TomTom One 3rd, and was very dissatisfied with the inadequate Rest Area POI's. So downloaded the POI Rest Areas Combined file, converted it with POIEdit2007, and installed it in the USA_and_Canada folder of the TomTom Root Directory. It works GREAT and cudos to everyone who worked on it! grin So now there are two RestArea entrys in the POI listing, the original TomTom one with standard icon and the Combined Rest Areas with a "Red Square" icon which I don't care for. So I also downloaded the POI Rest Area 2 bmp file and substituted it for the "Red Square" bpm file in the USA_and_Canada folder. However, when I called up the Rest Area POI's on the GPS the "Red Square" icon still shows up. What Happened?

Name Change

Try altering the name of the POI file by adding an (') to Areas and do exactly the same to the icon. You should now have 2 separate rest area files appearing in the POI menu, just select the one that you want to show up on your screen and it should appear sans RED SQUARE!

Thanks Mike for your quick response. I added the (') at the end of the file name and before the dot, for both files. Reloaded both files, and have two Rest Area on the POI Menu, but the #!#&*# Red Square is still there. Maybe I'll just have to live with it. The icon is certainly visible on the map.

I went into my One and found that for the Dunkin Donuts POI's I have loaded there are 2 separate icons.

What you'll have to do is name each icon/bmp. exactly as the file that it's associated with, i.e., POI=Rest Area + icon/bmp.=Rest Area; POI=Rest Area's + icon/bmp.=Rest Area's. Try that and let us know! smile

Mike,
I tried what I think you meant, but I'm not sure since I'm strictly a cookbook computer operator.
I named my files:
CombinedRestAreas'.Tom Tom Binary, and
CombinedRestAreas'.BMP
But still the ever present evil Red Square appears.

Something possibly related, I downloaded the Subway POI from Tom Tom Home which placed these files on my GPS in the USA_Canada folder:

Subway_Sandwich.BMP 2KB
Subway_Sandwich. Tom Tom Binary 15KB

and a new folder in the root directory:
POI which contains the file:
Subway_Sandwich.tlv 1KB

When I try to find a location from this file (with the appropriate icon) the GPS says, "NO POI FOUND" although the on board POI file has one within a half mile of my location.

OK, the file name should be CombinedRestAreas'.ov2 (the extension .ov2 is used instead of .Tom Tom Binary). Make that change if necessary and let me know if it works. If not then we'll take it from there. smile

Keep us posted!

I was reviewing an old discussion item on Tom Tom Talk Forum, "Tom Tom 720 GO and RED SQUARE POI icons faulty How to correct" (12/04/07) from POORNTx, who said that the BMP file must be saved in 8-bit or 256 color rather than 16-bit. Also that image should be 22x22. When I made these changes using my PhotoShop, EUREKA, the image now shows up. Thanks for your help!

Great news

Glad you found the problem! wink

glad you got it Eck!

I had the same problem (i.e. red sqaure icon) with some of the POI files I have made...until I made the icon 22x22. Voila!

Mike,
Just to clarify the "Tom Tom Binary" was Windows notation on a recognized file type of ".ov2".
Thanks again, Eck smile
