Any ideas on whether the magnetic clasp on a case for the Nuvi will affect the electronics inside. I don't know how the gyro in the GPSr works and don't want to mess it up.
IIRC its not a good idea to have magnets around your electronics, especially receivers, HDDs etc. But then again the cases for PDAs, Blackberry's etc have magnetic clasps.....
I have had mine for several months with no side affects.
They dont really have a hard drive inside..it is all solid state memory, that is very stable around magnets. I had the Magnet clasp case on my cell phone for a year and no effects...I really like the magnet cases..
Yes, you're right, the Nuvi's do not have a HDD. Some of the other brands have HDDs and I wonder if the magnet can cause it to corrupt / lose data? How about iPods with HDDs, combined with magnetic cases?
I definitely would not get my electronics close to a very strong magnet, but sounds like a magnetic clasp is weak enough to be ok.
How about the Gyro in a GPSr - is that electronic? Does it even exist in a GPSr since it is actually calculating its position based on sat. signals and not on physical movement?
well, can't speak for all cases, but I know that mine doesn't have strong magnet at all. It barely connects the two pieces.
I wonder where can I buy screen protector for my nuvi 750?
I use the "Invisible Shield" on my iPhone and iPod and they work great.
