creating tourguide using mapsource

Does anyone know how to create a tourguide using mapsource? I am looking to be able to display text like the way Garmin tour guides show descriptions, phones numbers, dates, times etc...of different places/restaurants etc... I was told this could be done in Mapsource but can't seem to find any information about it. Has anyone been able to create viewable text and if so can you post how?

Thanks,
Paul

But not viewable text?

The part they discuss I knew how to do but it is the written text I want to be able to view. They only mention combining a Mp3 file with a picture and having it activate when you approach the coordinates. Not the text view.

Do you mean TourGuide?

TourGuide is short for TourGuide Audio - and is an mp3 file associated with a POI as an alert sound. They are defined to POILoader by having the case-sensitive phrase "TourGuide" somewhere in the mp3 filename. They differ from normal POI Alerts in two ways.

  1. The audio can be manually stopped or started - instead of being played automatically once, from start to finish.

  2. The alert area is a true Proximity circle, rather than being measured along a road.

Garmin Travel Guides provide the sort of information you describe - the Garmin product for creating them is called the Content Toolkit. There is a $500 pa fee. It provides no authoring facilities as such - just the actual 'compiler', for want of a better phrase.

It is possible to produce Custom POI's that resemble Travel Guides in their functionality. Have a look at the things GeePeeEx Editor can do (URL in signature). There are some ready-built examples on the download page. Make sure you get the right one for your unit (this variation between units is one area where Travel Guides and Custom POI's differ).

Yes, This GeePeeEx editor is what I think I am looking for. Thanks, I will check it out more and see what I can do with it.

I didn't know that, thanks

Thanks! I learned something today.
