Using the SD card with 680

I have looked for the answers with no luck.
When I use the poiloader and put a file of poi's directly in the 680, it replaces the one file with the next file. I can only have one file at a time?
I have a number of files on the sd card but do not know how to make the 680 search the sd card.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is a stupid request
Thanks

Actually, there are many

Actually, there are many threads about this, but in short, yes, the 2nd file will overwrite the first.

You can avoid this by renaming the original file to something else. What I did was to load my Hilton Hotels, then renamed the X:\Garmin\Poi\poi.gpi to Hilton.gpi and then loaded my next poi set.

As for the SD card, when you loaded the POIs, did you do it through the POILoader and directed it to install the POIs on the SD card? or did you simply copy them over (that won't work)

Poiloader

When you use poiloader. You can choose whether to have the pois loaded on the unit, or the SD card. Poiloader takes all the poi files that are located where you point it and combines them into a file called poi.gpi
You can rename that file to somethingelse.gpi ad the next time you run Poiloader it will not overwrite. The unit will see poi files on the unit and on the sd card but they need to be .gpi or .gpx files.

Another option

I don't rename anything. Any time I get a new or updated POI file, I run POILoader and delete all POI's (takes 5 seconds most), then I reload all my POI's again with the updated one or the new ones. Works fine every time.
