Where can i?

Is there a place on the web that i can put in the Loungatude and latatude (sorry for the spelling) and see the location?

Like i want to see the red light locations so i know where they are.

Mapsource

Do you have mapsource or the update dvd for your unit? If so, you can use that program to see where the lat and long point to.

Call them

Register you unit, then CALL Garmin tech support and tell them you just got your unit and that you would like a map DVD to use with your pc. Many have had success getting this at no cost.

Are your maps up to date? You should have City Navigator NT 2008 on your garmin. If not, also ask for an update DVD. Depending on who you talk with, these should be sent free or nearly free.

Either one will have the maps on it. The map dvd is obvious, of course. The update DVD requires a little work, but it is there.

Hope this helps.

Anyone else out there know of a website that accepts lat and long to generate a location on a map?

You can do that in Google Maps.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Enter Lat, Lon then click Searh Maps. Click Satellite to see physical location.

Getting back to the original question, mapquest can accept coordinates if you want to see it on the computer rather then on the nuvi

Same page where the address is scroll down to the Coordinates icon, should be at the bottom, that is where my 260 has it.

Different maps for Google?

robertliles wrote:

Interesting.... The coordinates of 41.811933 -88.150955 show this area as a US Military Reservation using the link above. This link uses Google and the map says TeleAtlas 2008.

Just browsing directly to Google Maps and inputting the same coordinates in the search bar shows the same map, but now it's a Navteq 2008 map and does not have the designation of Military Reservation.

TeleAtlas shows the driveways around the parking lots and buildings but incorrectly identifies it as a Military Reservation.

Navteq doesn't show the driveways or identify the area as anything special. It's just an office park.

I wonder why Google would use Naveteq for some and TeleAtlas for others?

.

My guess is that it's the API that boulter is using. They must be combining data from more than one source. So the error comes from that other source not from Google.
