Garmin Streetpilot c530 and nRoute

I downloaded nRoute and tried to use it with my c530. The software doesn't recognize the c530 on the USB. This is the same thing that happens with gStart. I'm now assumming that the USB connection with the c530 is only as a drive (garmin c530 or memory card) and that you can not utilize the actual GPS functions on a PC. Can anyone confirm this?

Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource

With the c340 I found that

With the c340 I found that whenever plugging into a different USB port on the PC, Windows would want to load the drivers again - not a problem since Windows will find them and load them for me. I also found gStart does not always load up when I turn on the Garmin but a couple of on/off cycles usually makes it fire. If gStart fires up then nRoute will also recognize the GPS. I just fired up nRoute and it was unable to connect to the GPS but turning it off/on again (the c340) brought up gStart (which I cancelled) and nRoute found the c340 and worked fine.

Garmin c340

what i have found

I have never used nRoute but i do know a few things about it. You need MapSource. This comes with some models and can also be gotten from a Garmin Support (the greatest gps support is from garmin) if you just ask them...there are no fees as long as you are registered on their website and have your gps registered as well. nRoute also required a City Select product unlocked to a specific garmin unit. Hope this helps.
