How many KB is SD data card, City Navigator NT, Europe

Does anyone know how many MB or KB the actual file is on the microSD/SD data card, City Navigator NT, Europe?

My dilema: I have a Nuvi 350 (US) and all my music is on my current SD card. Can I combine the two SD cards or is it protected? Can the Europe Map be directly added to the Nuvi? Is there enough room?

I believe there is an unlock code with the disk so I do not know if they can be combined.

Thanks,
Paul

Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT (SD Card)...

... version 9 (full coverage) is 1.24 GB (1,334,673,433 bytes)

Thank You

Thanks for the info. Any idea if I can put my music mp3's on the same SD card and if the Map and mp3's can be run at the same time?

not with the way the Garmin SD card is formatted...

... it's marked as 100% used. I'm not sure what would happen if you copied the files to a 2Gb SD card with free space.

Supplemental Map?

If the Europe map SD is simply a supplemental map file it should be no problem to copy it to another SD as long as the file is in the Garmin folder.

Nuvi 350

Dear Paul,

I have the same problem. I bought a 4 G card and loaded it with music. Then bought a Europe City Data Card. I want to combine these but I have copied the folder on to my 4 G card and it won't let me have access to the maps. ???? Anybody got an answer?

City Navigator NT, Europe

The best thing to do is to buy the DVD City Navigator NT, Europe.
That way you can installed the maps for some of the countries only and have enough space for Custom POIs, music, etc.
In my case, I only installed western Europe, not eastern Europe on a 2 GIG SD Card. It only took 926MB. Other countries can be added later if needed.

Garmin Support

I emailed Garmin support and this is what they said.

You can't load that software from the disk to an SD card. You can however purchase that software preloaded onto an SD card instead of purchasing the DVD.

I didn't think they understood what I asked so I re-phrased my question to: "I was interested in purchasing the SD Card with the Europe maps on it and if I can load my music files on to the same card? Or, can the SD Card contents be transferred to another, larger, 4 GB card?"

They replied: Unfortunately neither of the ideas that you have will be possible.

.

Yeah, you can't do that. The maps are locked to the card.

4GB SD cards

I also found out that the unit has problems with 4GB SDHC cards. You would need to find non HC.

SDHC Cards

My SDHC 4GB works just fine on my 680??

Nuvi 350

While we are talking about things we can't do with the Nuvi 350, you should have been on the phone with me when talking to Garmin Tech support about the Currency Converter. After an hour and doing lots of stuff, including a reload of the software he said to me, "maybe I am not having the problem here b/c I have been using a Nuvi 360". Duh. He said a software fix for the Nuvi 350 is in the works and coming out sometime soon.

I bought the DVD of Garmin

I bought the DVD of Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 and loaded it on my computer then downloaded all the maps to my Nuvi 350 on the SD card not the units internal memory. It left me 677mb of space on the 2GB card which I filled with music and POI's. I'm gonna try buying a bigger card (4GB) and just copy the 2GB to the 4GB and see if it works. If not, I can load it from my laptop, through the 350 to the 4GB SD card. It just takes longer.

DVD or SD card

So in the last post, I am speculating it is better to have the Europe DVD rather than the SD card since one can copy the maps to an SD Card? Why would Garmin have not told me that in the first place? They just simply said "can't be done" but if I can load the Europe maps from the DVD to the computer and then load them all to the SD card along with the music files it will work?

Probably because

That is probably not how the software engineers intended folks to use it. That happens a lot of times in the "real world." We try and make things work not as the manufacturer intended, so there is no documentation for it. Also, sometimes when I give a customer support I don't tell them it would work a particular way because they could mess a system up if they didn't do it exactly right, even though I know I could do it that way. You just have to be aware of all the details and KNOW what you are doing.

Yes. This will work.

After you install the maps from the DVD to your computer, you will use MapSource to load the map regions you want to the SD card and then the rest of the space on the card will be available for whatever else you want.

The maps on the preloaded cards can't be copied and can't be used with your computer.

Thanks

Thank you so much. That makes a world of difference. I'll buy the DVD version then and load it to an SD card. My other option was to buy a European nuvi 200.

010-10680-50 vs 010-10680-00

I am thinking of buying the SD card for Europe maps. I see two different numbers listed, as given in the subject. Both are called Garmin City Navigator Europe NT V9 SD Card. The -50 generally costs a bit more. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two versions?

Also, when using maps on an SD card, is there any special setup required for my NUVI 360? For example, do I need to tell it somehow to look on the SD card rather than in the internal memory for the maps? When using it for navigation on my 360, will I get voice turn-by-turn instructions (as I do in the US)?

Thanks...

It looks like the 010-10680-50 is a micro SD card and the 010-10680-00 is a regular SD card. You want the regular sized one.

You won't have to do anything special other than make sure that the maps are selected. Wrench > Map > Map Info and be sure the check box is checked.

You will get all the same functionality as you do with the North America maps.

Be advised that you won't be able to use any other data that might be on your regular SD card at the same time. So if you are going to load Custom POIs, be sure to load them to the GPS unit itself.

thanks

Dear M^2: Thanks very much for your quick reply.

I have the Nuvi 680, is that a regular SD card or a micro?

The nuvis need the regular sized SD card. The microSD cards are for the handhelds.

also the new 2x5 series

Good to know. Thanks.

On the other hand, I guess

On the other hand, I guess it doesn't matter, since it comes with the adaptor to make it usable for the standard size.

I'm having a hard time

I'm having a hard time finding the newest europe NT maps available, except on garmin.com. Every site I check does not mention the version and I don't want version 9, I want the new 2008. I'm afraid I will end up with the old version. Anybody know where you can find the new 2008 version for Europe NT maps?

Size does matter

It matters due to the fact that the microSD cards cost more per MB than the standard sized cards. smile

When I look at the Garmin site they list the City Navigator NT Europe v9 -- are you sure there is a newer map set for Europe?

I know people have gotten the v2008 Europe update disk, but I haven't heard anyone get the full version yet.

Here's a site many on the Zumo forum used for the update. I think they were all in Europe though.

Full DVD

I just bought the full DVD. I bought it off Garmin the day the price dropped from $299 to $149. I thought it was a mistake and so did the Garmin tech so I jumped on it. It is the City Nav NT Europe 2008.1 version. It arrived 5 days after I purchased it. What else did you need to know?

Oh, it is ~1.4GB of space for the entire map on SD Card.

Will it work on the 680?

Garmin's site does not show the euro DVD as an accessory for the 680. Has anyone loaded the Euro maps onto an SD card and used them in a 680. Can you also read POI and MP3 from the same SD card? I have a 4gb card. Has anyone done this with a 8gb card?

I loaded metroguides onto sdhc

I loaded metroguide Europe and Great Britain (583megs), along with mp3 files & jpeg files and it all works. I'm using a 2gig card in a c550.

I used mapsource V 6.13.7 to load it onto the card.

It is an old vers that I had from around 2000 Version 4.01 but how much can the roads in Europe/GB change?

BTW all my waypoints alias for poi's also loaded.

Look under the Maps tab not accessories. I looked up under nuvi 680 and they list this.

MapSource City Navigator Europe NT
Part Number: 010-10887-00

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=6299&pvID=7880

One thing to note is the DVD version is locked to the nuvi serial number you load it to. You will not be able to use it with another nuvi. The SD card version however is locked to the SD card and is interchangable through other nuvi's.

I didn't see the 2008

I didn't see the 2008 version under the map tab so I was confused. But I see it the same part number. Thanks!

The one thing that really

The one thing that really appeals to me about the data card vs the dvd is that you can use the card in any compatible gpsr and if you decide to upgrade in a year or longer, you can just pop your europe map data card into your new unit...you can't do that with a dvd, it's only good with one unit, as I understand it. So there are obviously pros and cons to the dvd vs the card. And as often as I change units, I think I will stick to the card and just put my mp3s and pics on the internal memory.

Is the dvd only good for one unit?

In the past that wasn't true with maps I have purchased and if I get rid of one unit and by another you would think I could get permission from Garmin to use it on the new unit.

I just verified this past weekend and the DVD locks to the unit serial number. I can't remember for sure but I think the DVD requires that your nuvi be connected to the computer to unlock the DVD right in the begining or you need to enter your serial number before it installs on the computer.

For those that have the SD Card version; Can you update the SD Card version in the future? I believe you can with the DVD?

I guess it will take a call to Garmin

I just wonder if you can switch it to a different unit if you switch units in the future. In the past even windows would let you do that. Unload it from one computer and install it on another.. But who knows they keep getting stickier and stickier.. or maybe greedier is a better word.

Transfering City Navigator NT Europe onto SD card

I have unlocked the dvd on my PC and can connect to my Novi 350. However, the garmin software (mapsource) does not see my SD card? It sees the Novi but I don't have enough room on the internal memory. How do I get it to see the 2 Gig SD card?
Thanks.

If you go to my computer you should see it as a seperate drive. Make sure the card is unlocked.
When using mapsource, if you select what you are going to send, when the popup shows and you see nuvi, there should be a drop down to select the SD Card.

Exact Size

Reported from Windows about 1.43 GB.

If you buy it for the card format, I think it is protected through the SD card but I could be wrong. I usually prefer the mapsource DVD so I can make custom map. But in that case the protection is for your unit.

It can if you have mapsource. You can add all the protection codes through mapsource and all of the codes should be out with your custom map. In fact you can combine multiple maps into a single image if you have all the codes into the mapsource. Get a larger card.

Try a different card. Maybe the card is bad. Or try a hard reader. It's not an Ultra card is it? (because those won't work).

Europe Maps with SCDB POI?

Hi,

I just purchased a nuvi 260W and I'm planing a trip to Ireland. I'd like to be able to use my GPSr while I'm there, so I'm going to need to get the Europe maps. I see in this discussion that there are two choices: DVD or SD card, with pros and cons of each. In my case, I'm planing to get the SCDB POI (http://www.scdb.info/en/), so my question is this. Can I store the SCDB POI in the internal memory and just use a Europe SD card, or do I need to buy the DVD so I can load both onto a 2GB card?

As for that, is there any (possibly free) alternative to the SCDB?
