Will NUVI 350 work with WINDOWS 98?

My regular computer (using WINDOWS XP) is in the shop and I tried to connect my nuvi 350 to my old computer using WINDOWS 98).

Neither WINDOWS explorer or POI loader would recognize the GARMIN.

I had no problems before with my WINDOWS XP computer.

Any suggestions?

Win98

Are you using Second Addition? Also most USB devices must have their own driver installed under Win98.

I guess not. When I click on "Help - about" it just says

WINDOWS 98(C) 1981 - 1997 Microsoft Corp.

Where do I get a USB driver? I didn't find one on Garmin.com

Since POI loader is not

Since POI loader is not compatable with windows 98, you are probably out of luck. Check to see if you can load windows xp on your laptop, I did mine and it works fine.

If windows 98 can at least see your GPS as a drive (which I doubt), you may be able to have someone else use their POI loader to combine your POI files into the file needed for garmin and send it to you.

My advice, Leave the unit alone until you can get a new laptop or upgrade to xp.

Win 98

If i am not mastaken, Windows 98 do not support USB's You def will need to upgrade your laptop..

You can add USB Ports to your laptop buy adding a USB+2.0+PCMCIA card into the PCMIA slot. Then add a copy of xp operating system to it and away you go.

98 and USB

Win could support USB but... you need to have it patched to 98b also you will need a usb driver for each device you want to communicate with (provided by the vender).

Val - Nuvi 785t and Streetpilot C340

.

But I don't think that it (Windows 98) supports USB Mass Storage devices, does it?

USB

Only if the manufacture provided a custom driver. Then again there were no thumb drives back then. I still have a USB PC camera that worked with Win98 and still works with XP but will not work with Vista.

windows 98se

I also have Windows 98SE with NUVI 200. I downloaded a generic UMSD driver which works. I can load files in and out of NUVI now.
Still looking for a way to get POILOADER to run or find another POILOADER for win 98SE. Any Help?

windows 98SE to NUVI 200

I googled, and downloaded and installed generic driver nusb33e.exe. Now am able to read NUVI as mass storage device.
Still trying to get POILOADER to work on windows 98. If anyone knows POILOADER for windows 98 let me know.

Windows XP

harley and pinegold - you really should consider just upgrading to Windows XP. You can purchase a license for less than $100.
