downloading poi icons

I just purchased a Garmin street pilot c530. I downloaded custom poi's which worked fine. I thought it would be neat to download icons for these. Has anyone done this on c530 or know if it can be done . Instuctions for 530 say it acepts jpeg images, The icons on poi factory site are in bmp. I tried loading those with poi loader and also tried converting to jpeg with microsoft paint program. They don't show up anwhere. I called Garmin and they said they will only show up in the custom poi under extras and not on the map. Thanks for any help.

If you are loading the icon,

If you are loading the icon, here are the following you need to do:

1. The POI (csv or gpx) file and the icon (.bmp) file you download here must have the same file name.

bestbuy.csv
bestbuy.bmp

You don't need to edit the bmp file you download. you just need to rename it with the same name as the poi.

Thanks for reply
I believe I tried that first, but will try that again. When I click on link to download icon the Icon opens in a new page, I click on file, save as and then change name to match poi file. I will try again

.

Go to Where to? > down arrow > Extras > Custom POIs and select one of the POIs for which you have loaded an icon. Select the button to view the location on the map and zoom all the way in until you see the location.

Thanks Motorcycle Mama,
I see the icons when I do that. I thought I would be abel to see the icons when I was driving with veiw map selected. That is probably not the case though.

POI Icons Appear ...

When you are traveling to a POI you have selected as a destination, OR ...

When you have set an alert for a POI, and you approach that POI. As an example, if you load speed trap or traffic light POIs, and set a proximity alert, when you approach a trap, an alert will sound with the associated icon on the map.

You have to zoom way in for them to show up. Different units have different zoom thresholds at which the POI icons are displayed.

The Zumo for instance shows them at 0.3 miles, but many units don't show them until you are zoomed to 300 feet.

Thanks again
