Nuvi 760 & VerizonWireless BlueTooth

Greetings:

I have the nuvi 760 and a verizon lg 8700. The bluetooth function between them is TOTALLY worthless in all functions. Anyone else having issues with garmin bluetooth and the verizon phones?? I did notice the bluetooth firmware update when I did the webupdater,,,,,but don't know if that was involved,,,,

Thanks

it's Verizon

they disable much of the function built into their phones.

it drives me crazy ... they have the best service, hands down, but the lose customers all the time because of their terrible UI and the limitation they program into their phones!

I Have Two Verizon Phones...

a Motorola E815 and a V3m. Both are Bluetooth capable. I had no problems pairing the phones to my Nuvi 660 and the Nuvi had full access to the phonebook on the phone.

Yes Verizon turns off some of the Bluetooth functions. Usually it's file transfer functions(OBEX). That way you have to use their Get it Now to download things to your phone (as Verizon chants "mo money mo money"!) Pairing up to the Nuvi should be like pairing up to a headset. Verizon Bluetooth capable handsets can pair up to headsets.

I have a couple of questions:

Have you checked with Garmin to see if your phone model is supported?

How are you attempting to pair up? Pairing the phone to the Nuvi or the Nuvi to the phone?

I really hope you get it worked out. Being able to use the phone through the GPS is a useful feature!

ol' verizon and toothless bluetooth

Thanks,,,,,, I spent an hour today getting my lg 8700 upgraded to the latest software at the VerizonWireless Store and it seems that some bluetooth issues were addressed as I was then able to get most functions working on the 760. As for Garmin, they list very FEW phones as being compatible, which I have to believe is in error. Sad that for the 740 dollars spent I have to play detective. Garmin should just honestly ANNOUNCE that many should be aware of the less than stellar bluetooth functionality.

Mine too

I tried on my 680 and the lg8600 (Venus) and have yet to get it to work..I upgraded the firmware on the Garmin...so now it's off to the Verizon store to upgrade the formware..My problem is that Bluetooth is supposed to be a 'Standard' like IEEE and HL7 etc...and yet you have to upgrade every unit...arrgghhh

Thnaks for the tip on the Verizon upgrage

It depends on what part of the country you live in. People passing through the midwest tell me they have little to no coverage.

Because Verizon has very little of their own owned & operated infrastructure in the Midwest.

Here's a good one re: Verizon...on Blackberry 8830 phones, they only allow the device's built-in GPS to function only with their proprietary software application...Verizon BB-8830 users can not use the Telenav, Garmin, or other 3rd party applications that are known to function well on the BB-8830.

Bingo...

I fianlly got it to pair up..I think I ended up using the phone to do the finding and pairing instead of the Garmin...Thank you for all your advice and help!

I have problems with my

I have problems with my Motorola K1M KRZR if I have a MicroSD card in my phone when my phone starts up, the bluetooth does not work. The only way to get it to turn on the phone without the MicroSD, then put the card back in once the phone is powered up.

Try this...

Remove the memory card > turn Bluetooth OFF > put the memory card back in > turn Bluetooth ON. Bluetooth should now work with SD card insterted.

I have also heard that the K1M KRZR has issues with certain brands of micro SD cards.

Good Luck and let me know how it goes.

That's how companys shoot themselves in the foot. When I first got into computers I bought a Texas Instruments TI 99/4A computer and was soon to find out that TI made everything proprietary and because of that no third party people took any interest in writing software for it, so I ended up teaching myself how to program in basic just so I didn't have to buy their high priced software. It wasn't too long before their machine went the way of the dinosaurs.
