It can be used for a few things. Garmin intended it to be able to store maps or as a way to deliver (sell) maps to customers. You can also store POI files there rather than in the unit itself. Since it also shows up as a plain drive on your computer, I find it useful to store my "raw" POI files, POI Loader installer application, etc. so if I am ever at a different computer and need the POI Loader installed on that computer, I can get them off the card in the unit.

Yes I think so. There seems to be an upper limit, maybe 4GB (?), buy your 1GB card will likely work perfectly.

Yes. And in fact these are one of the biggest users of space on the 200 and will free up a LOT of room for POIs. Language files, if you are paranoid, can be backed up to your computer or to the SD card in the unit. They also will be shown to you by Garmin when you run an update check with the update software (download from Garmin).

Which files? POI files? You need to save them to your computer. Then to put them on the Garmin, you need to download and use the POI Loader which you can get from the Garmin web site.

Are you using save the file to a folder then opening it up or are using run command?I just tried the download from http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=927 and it downloaded with no problems and I got the next command after checking box accepting the terms for using the product.

quietstorm, I'm not 100% sure about Vista but in XP if your Windows Taskbar is anywhere but at the bottom of the screen, you will get the problem of the buttons not being visible.

Still No Go!! :(

charlesd45..

I downloaded the updater and it to, will not
let me get pass the opening/welcome screen
on the either one! sad

Do you think it might be my anti-virus? question

Which one do I use??
The update has the box to accept the terms
and the POI Loader does not! wink

Motorcycle Mama..
Thanks for your advice, but I checked that too!
Good advice tho! smile

I like your screen name..I use to ride GoldWings until my back blew and I can not handle the weight and balance!! wink

I would go with the update.anti-virus should not cause this problem.I had a problem with a download a few days back.I use msn explorer and for some reason it would not let me download the file but when I went to windows explorer it worked. Not sure why because I have used msn for years with no problems.

Still No Luck!! :(

Well..
I waited a few days to see if anyone else might have the problem I am experiencing..guess it is just me!

Still no luck in trying to install the POI Loader! sad

Like I mentioned before..the install screen comes up and "freezes!" It asks to click on "next" which is NOT there!
I have disabled my anti-virus and firewall and tried in both explorer and firefox. No luck!

I do not know what else to do, but pull out little hair I got on my head.

Thanks to all that gave me some advice! smile

The only issue I've ever seen like this is with the Taskbar. Since you indicate that the Taskbar isn't an issue, can you try it on another computer?

I know that that won't likely help you in the long run, but might at least get you to be able to load some in the short term.

Edit:

I just found this post from JM. Maybe it will help.

POI loader on Vista

Hey quietstorm,
I have POI loader running at work on XP. I was just reading your quest and I am at my home computer, running VISTA.
So I just went to POI loader link, clicked to "run".
All went smooooothly.
installed with-out any glitch what so ever.
I guess just hang in there and don't give up.
Try placing your tongue in opposite sheek smile)
