Blue Tooth Adapters (???)

I have recently bought a Nuvi-660. One of the sale-points for me... was the supposed Blue Tooth capabilities. I have a phone w/o Blue Tooth, but was able to purchase a Blue Tooth Adapter for it (some time ago, now) made by Cardo {(the Cardo BTA II)[that's BTA-2]} This adapter plugs right into the headphone-jack on my cell-phone. My Blue Tooth Adapter has worked on everything from different phones, to different head-sets, to any unsophisticated "Hands-Free" Blue Tooth units which clip onto the visor or dash-board. It has always "paired-up" with anything I ever attempted, and worked quite well.

That was until I tried to pair it up with my Nuvi-660!

I spent over an hour trying everything I could think of, INCLUDING re-reading all related instructions from both Garmin & Cardo, several times each! NO dice yet!!! And... WHY must some things need to be "supported" by the Nuvi!?!?! Why can't the Nuvi just pair-up in good-faith with all Blue Tooth stuff, like everything else that I know does?!? Has any one else, out there, had any experience with this sort of thing?

---HELP!! Are there any settings I can find in some arcane part of a menu, or something, that I can find and adjust, or any other tricks someone may know?

(I have no plans to either spend hundreds of dollars OR extend myself an additional two years just to get a newer phone. This is because I plan to dump my carrier as soon as my contract ends later this year.) After THAT, I'll get a newer/better phone!

- you're pretty much out of luck, as Nuvis don't exactly pair well with some phones...let alone something that's not a phone...I've not had any luck pairing my 660 to anything other than a phone...the phones that worked well for me have been an LG AX-380 and a Samsung U520....my Blackberry 8830 does not want to pair at all.

Ok, take a deep breath ...

Now, as Keith has mentioned, these GPS units can have difficulty pairing with things that aren't phones. It's not what the were designed for. I'm not saying that they should be designed for it, I'm just saying.

So, I usually have had the best luck having my phone find the GPS unit and not the other way around.

Try this and see if you get any different results. If not, you are probably going to be out of luck.

Delete any and all previous pairings from both the GPS unit and the Bluetooth device.

Enable the Bluetooth function on your GPS unit.

Enable the Bluetooth function on your Bluetooth device.

On the Bluetooth device, use whatever is the proscribed method to add a new device and see if it will locate the GPS unit.

If this doesn't work, the other thing that I would try is to pair another phone (maybe a friend or family member or coworker) just to make sure that it's all working properly.
