What are trying to do with xImage?

Your nuvi is able to take screenshots directly and then you can access them in the screenshot folder when you connect your nuvi to your computer.

What I was going to do was generate a screen shot of my own and load on to nuvi. I have spent some time reading on this site (great info) about what others have done. So I thought I would give it a go.
However ximage will not even recognise the nuvi connection.

If you look at page 44 of your user manual, it indicates that if you go to Settings > Display > Screenshot, then once it is enabled, you can take screenshots by pressing and releasing the Power button.

If you are trying to create a new splash screen for your unit, you can simply copy a jpg file from your computer to your unit or to your SD card. Then you change your splash screen by going to Settings > Display > Splash Screen

Ok - I have done that - something new for me - thanks.

However, what I would like to do is generate my own picture using photoshop etc and load on the nuvi so it is on start up page. I can also put contact details etc so if stolen that is all they will see.

I understand that is what ximage is for changing the splash screen on the system.

No, you don't need xImage. xImage was created for older models.

Create your image in Photoshop and then simply copy that file to your nuvi or your SD card, and the nuvi will read it directly when you go to the menus described above.

Is the Splash Screen setting only available on certain models? I don't have a Settings > Display > Splash Screen selection on my Nuvi 260. Under Display I have Color Mode, Screen Shot and Brightness. Thanks.

Changing a startup image with ximage is for such models as the c330. Where the comp. won`t recognize the unit as mass strg device (where u can`t see the files on a comp.).

First you have to resize any of your images to 320 X 240 and save them as JPEG and then All you have to do is plug your nuvi into the computer and find where you saved your photos and send them to the jpeg folder on the Nuvi

Don't have the 260 in my hand but think it works like this..

place image(s) on SD compact card

insert card into Nuvi

tap the Tools/wrench icon

scroll down and tap Picture Viewer

tap the image that you want to see

tap again, upper left will have option to save as start-up screen

you can then take the compact card out, it's no longer needed for the start-up image
