Mexico maps - not worth it for the area I was in.

Hi All,

I got http://www.gpsinformation.org/jack/cruise/cruise-a.html for my recent Mexico trip (Cancun & Akumal areas), and they were horrible. Most of the time, my Zumo was not tracking properly on the streets & there's a severe lack of POI info.

Just a quick note to let y'all know my bad experience.

Really? I recently got the

Really?

I recently got the BiciMapas Mexico maps. I hope to use them in Guadalajara and Cancun.

I'll post my experience when I return.

I didn't go to Guadalajara, but I did go to Cancun. Just look at the number of POIs that are available - really bad. Dunno why my Zumo kept getting screwed up when I drove down the highway. My Zumo kept thinking that I was off the main road somehow.

Hope you have better luck!

Mexico POI's - some better than others!

I have the Mexico Maps GPS Atlas Version 1.2 (all Mexico) licenses. My son recently travelled to San Felipe, BC Mexico. The routing/tracking were accurate enough for travel, and many of the POI's we set up through Mapsource/Mexico Maps were not very far off the mark. I am adjusting some of these and will share them when I know they are accurate.

While in Mexico, why not create poi's for travel in Mexico with comments regarding map accuracy at that location, and share with members?

Particularly if you are at a site and could mark the poi at the edge of the road, it would assist others planning to travel there, especially if they were to use the same map product. I think we would all be grateful for information regarding food, lodging, and attractions.

In preparing POI's, I found there is a difference between Google Earth, Streets and Trips, and the Garmin and Mexico maps for some locations. I think I will continue to go with the Mexico GPS Atlas routable maps for now and see how this plays out for Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) and Cabo.

...more later.

Wow! Until I read this thread, I assumed my Nuvi 350 came

equipped with maps for ALL of North America. I just checked and, sure enough, all I have for Mexico is major hyways - no street level maps.

Does Garmin sell maps for individual countrys?

I have seen the future and it is now!

Here are the available maps from Garmin.

Didn't notice that!

Garmin sells Mexico maps! Thanks for the link MM!

I can't tell by looking at the map viewer if the coverage is any better than the maps that I had during my trip...

That's *exactly* what I was thinking.

Turn on tracking and mark waypoints like a madman.

Mexico City & Cancun POIs

I went to Cancun couple of years ago before I got myself GPSes. I am going down there again coming June. I bought street maps fo Mexico City and I have Bicimaps for Garmin. They correlate each other pretty close. I've been putting POIs into Garmin now based on paper maps I purchased. I have Cancun street maps that I marked POIs last time I was there. I'm also entering those as well. I will try to verify accuracy when I'm down there and try to share with others when I come back.
