Chatty Charley thread for the week of January 14th 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Ever see water boil until it froze?

One of the tricks the HS science teacher taught us....a little water in a petri dish, under a bell jar, and vacuum out air until the pressure in the bell jar is less than the vapor pressure of the water...and it boils, cools, and freezes.

If you get pure H2O in a

If you get pure H2O in a container that has absolutely no blemishes...water won't boil.

But be very careful

AS the water will be superheated and Boil very quickly if the surface tension is broken...this happens sometimes in a corningware cup in a Microwave.

And too the Deep fried stuff..there is a guy that has Deep fried Candy bars and twinkies at our fair...they use batter....

Nor will it freeze as readily.

I had a clear bottle of water sitting in my car one winter morning. As soon as I shook it, ice crystals formed inside.

And speaking of freezing

It's 31 degrees here, but humidity makes it feel like 17.

I am bored

I am bored ! Nobody want to talk about their Magellan GPS anymore, Magellan forum is so quiet! sad

--
Nuvi 2595LMT

Magellan? Garmin? TomTom? Do I care?

Not really. I browse through any recent post that sounds interesting.

As a Nüvi user, I see "Garmin talk" displayed more often than other subject, but that doesn't mean I don't find new and interesting things from other forums.

Resigned? Contented?

On my part, I am resigned to the fact that my Magellan 2200t has old maps which are not likely to be updated soon. Also, I am resigned to the fact that I cannot afford to replace it with a different brand even if some are offered at attractive prices.

I am contented to the fact that it generally gives me good service and brings me to where I want to go using satisfactory features.

This being the case, I do not find a need to gripe about it anymore. I would comment about it only if someone raises an interesting issue.

I almost wish for a lawsuit that would set the precedence in favor of GPS makers.

Silverstar ULtra bulbs for your car.

I have seen the tv ad for this. Did anyone actually try this yet? They claim that it is whiter than the orig bulbs. I have tried different brands before but they burn out quick (less tha a year). Usually only one will burn out. I was using it on my Honda CRV. The original bulbs that I replace them with still works after 6 years.

My kids want their allowances in Loonie, eh?

After I posted what I heard from my Canadian business associates, I wanted to ask all the Canadian members here.

How has the recent Loonie-to-Greenbacks exchange rate affected you?

Map updates for new freeway in Minneapolis area

Newly opened Hwy 312, spanning from near Minneapolis to Chaska, MN, does not appear on Garmin Map Update 2008. Is there any way I can download a map containing it?

Please reply to Michael.Wellner@comcast.net.

Loonie to greenbacks

My wife and I have travelled to Cape Coral, Florida for the past 7 or 8 years and rent a house with pool for a couple of weeks with my sister and her husband. About 4 or 5 years ago we were exchanging $3000 Canadian for $2000 US so you can see that with the exchange being at or near equal it makes a great difference. It also has woke up our retailers up here as same day trips to the US has increased tremendously. The major population centers in Canada are 2 hours or less to the border. My sisiter and her husband bought a manufactured home in Ft. Myers and we are going down in February and are going to buy one too in preparation for our retirement.

Who's GPS is it?

Ever since I bought myself the Nuvi 250 on black Friday, my wife has had a GPS and I haven't seen mine. I thought that the "bought myself" part would be nice. But it's now hers. I think it's time to buy another one.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, but not with a GPS.

I bought MYSELF a new computer to replace an old clunker a couple of years ago. As soon as I got it in the house, I could not get near it; she was always on it. So back to the store to buy her a new one.

I have not let her touch the GPS yet - I learned my lesson.

Sorry I haven't been around. Trying to memorize parts of the prolaser 3 manual for my court date and have been busy at work.

Chatty Kathy (and I didn't know this until this thread was put up) was the doll that they use to sell. But I guess she changed it to my name since that is why it was created...lol.
