Web Updater problem

I am using web updater 2.4.1 to update my Nuvi 660 to 4.2. The web updater finds the unit, lists the upgrades available and then downloads the upgrade with the green bar showing progress. Then it says installing.. and an error message comes up "Access Denied". The funny thing is I have used this web updater to update in the past.

Does anyone have any idea how to get around the access denied error?

I have a Nuvi 660 1 year old fully registered with Garmin.

Thanks,

Is the problem repeatable? It could be a network/server error on Garmin's side.

Have you changed anything on your computer? OS, virus protection, firewall?

I tried disabling my firewall, no luck. The strange thing is it seems to be communicating ok with the Garmin site because I see the downloading command and it takes about 10 seconds for the download. When it goes to install the update on the unit is when I get the "access denied" . It is repeatable; right now it always happens. I haven't tried a global reset of the unit. That is next. Any other thoughts.

I have also tried it on 3 separate computers and used a number of different usb cables.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the problem is coming from the Nuvi since you are having the same problem on other computers.
Do you have the Garmin Lock set to on? It could be that is the problem. Disable the Garmin Lock and try it again.

When I looked at the properties of my Garmin Drive it was set to "Read Only". I changed the properties and was able to update the unit.

I assume the drive should not have been write protected but how did it get that way? Or should it be write protected?

Anyway the issue appears to be solved.

Thank you for the help.

Glad you got it sorted out. Yeah, I would think that you would not want to have it be "read only" because that would prevent any data from being written to it.

I'm not sure how it could have gotten changed, though. Odd!
