Garmin's built-in POI database

The built in database is non modifiable.

don't want to modify it....just want to use it as a basis for duplicate removal

That is one problem with custom pois you will have duplicates and wasted memory space.It seems like it should work like the computer.The message you get .Folder with the same name exists do you want to replace it?Looks like Garmin would have done something like that when they designed units to accept custom pois.

I'm willing to work the other way. Have a program look at the list of custom POIs, and remove duplicates of those that are already in the built-in list. Not perfect, but memory-friendly

I just sent email to Garmin about this problem with duplication.Maybe they will look at it.If others would contact them maybe we could get a change put out.

If you come up with something dr5274 I know everyone would like to have it.

It would be super if you could Edit the Garmin File..There are so many "old" restaurants in my home town that I would Love to delete. It is funny they have added the New restaurant that moved into a building but didnt delete the Old one. There is one place that has the last 2 names still in the data base. If everyone could Fix their Home towns then send them back to Garmin..that would be great.

If you read about the Tom Tom company latest news with google and other changes they are making their units are worth looking at. Even though right now I prefer Garmin.A lot of that has to do with customer support.Garmin can't ride on that for ever.

I was about ready to pull the trigger on a TomTom when I found the Nuvi 200 for just over $160....figured even if it was a mistake, it didn't cost much more than a map update. And that should let the smoke settle...
