I am planning to go to Italy this Spring and am interested in recommendations on street maps. I have a Garmin 660. Is it best to buy a product from Garmin or are there other, better and/or less expensive, sources for street maps covering Italy.
I appreciate the help.

The maps have to be Garmin maps.
You can search this site to see if there are any free maps available for Italy.

Then you will probably have to use a third party software to load them.

Thanks for the info. I thought I would be able to check out http://cgpsmapper.com/ and then get right back to you with additional questions; unfortunately I will have to spend some time studying that site before I know enough to ask even the simplest question!
Speaking of the simplest question... if I purchase a Garmin map would I still need a third party software to download it?
Thanks,

Yeah, loading those alternative maps can be complicated for the uninitiated.
If you purchase the Garmin maps, it will come with the proper installation software, namely MapSource.

I think I'll dig into alternative maps for a couple of days- not necessarily because they are free, but that is nice- but because I am now curious about this new source (for me) of information. Probably after my 3rd migrain I'll buy the maps .
Thanks again.
