GPI files for 660

Help! How EXACTLY do I get this to work? There are no POI folders on my unit. Also how do I change cars? I have downloaded new car files but don't know where to put them on my GPS so it will read them and offer them as a choice.

In the vehicle folder

Nuvi>Garmin>Vehicle is where they should go.

Nuvi>Garmin>POI is where the poi.gpi is.

go to garmin.com, download poiloader and it will facilitate loading poi's, vehicles, updates AND will generate the folders you need to store them in your unit.

Just Study

If you look at the top of our web site, just to the right of the search box, you will see "getting Started". Everything to start you out on your wonderful GPSr journey is spelled out for you. Including loading POI's to your GPSr.

GPI FILES 660

I did all of this first before my posting. It isn't working! The downloaded POI loader will not accept a GPI file. So now what??????? Also, the car file is png file or srf - take your pick. I looked at my Nuvi files and did a search for POI files, Png files or srf files and found nothing. What am I doing wrong?

You can copy the GPI file directly to Garmin->POI folder on your nuvi.
SRF files are copied directly to Garmin->Vehicle folder on your nuvi.

Slow down

Snorrel, First to put the New Vehicles in..you said you downloaded them..find them on your PC. they will be in a ZIP file. you need to UNZIP them ( or extract them) Then you can just copy or drag them to your Nuvi. The folder they go into is the Garmin- vehicle file. I am surprised the search didnt find any in your Nuvi...But maybe you didn't search subfolders.

the getting Started can tell you much more than I can on POIS

Guys, I am not computer illiterate! I have read the instructions over and over again. It is not recognizing the srf or the png files and will not put them in the Nuvi! I did unzip the files and I did search the subfolders! The unloader throws will not accept the POI files I have downloaded

Hope this helps

First, connect your 660 to your PC using a USB cable. Your 660 will power up and then show it connected to a PC. Now I am assuming you have and IBM compatible PC. Go to Start at the bottom left of your PC, right click on start and left click on Explore. Go Down until you see Nuvi(G) -could be another drive other than G. Now click on the + sign to expand your Nuvi. You will see a file called Garmin with a + sign on it. Click on the + sign to expand it. Notice there is a directory called vehicle. This is where you drag any vehicles you have down loaded. They are usually srf files. Now unplug your USB cable and let your unit power up. Hit the wrench icon from the main menu, then the map icon and you will see Vehicle on the page. Push the change icon, go down until you see the vehicle you want and then click on OK. This is how you put in vehicles.

Your not reading what they are writing. They told you to copy the .png file directly to the 660. DO NOT use the loader. Your device should be seen as a drive on your computer. The loader is used for the POI's.

Yes, use POI Loader program from Garmin to add the POI's to your 660, however, I do not know if it handles GPI files ... only GPX and CSV.

For the vehicles, PNG? Vehicle files are not PNG, they are SRF. As mentioned, they go onto your 660 in the Garmin/Vehicles directory and you can just use windows to copy them there.

I know when I created my own custom vehicle, it was done in PNG, but then I had to convert it to SRF.

.

The vehicle files must be placed in the vehicle folder on the unit. They won't be read if placed anywhere else. And I agree that I don't think the unit will read .png files, but maybe it will. ??

If you have actual .poi files (meaning files with the .poi extension that have been compiled elsewhere), you don't load these with POI Loader. You copy them directly to the POI folder on the unit or on the SD card.
