Garmin Waypoint Manager

I recently recieved a Garmin c330. It's basic but all I need. The only downfall is trip planning. I'm used to using Microsoft Streets and laying out a complete trip. Is the Garmin Waypoint mangager in any way smiliar to this? I'm just looking for something that I can enter waypoints and plot out a trip.

I don't think Waypoint Mangager will help

You'll need to get familiar with making & saving custom POI Lists for your trips, and load those to your c330.

You can set up your trip

You can set up your trip in Mapsource, making waypoints as you set up the route . Save the waypoints in Mapsource then down load the waypoints to your C330 as "Favorites".
I manage all my "Favorites" using mapsource - easy to set up and easy to delete unwanted "Favorites"
You can also print out the written directions from your Mapsource routing !

So I have two options

Create my own lists and install them as custom waypoints or buy the Mapsource City Navigator. I'll probably create my own lists for now. The price of the Navigator is a bit steep right now. Is the Mapsource easy to use or is it a pain to unlock like some people claim?

City Navigator

Garmin support has the above software that allows greater use of MapSource. Mine was provided free upon my request by support. Cover indicates "Detailed Maps for US, Canada & PR" "with Map Source for Trip and Waypoint Managaement". When I installed it I was able to find almost any address and produce waypoints for uploading to Favorites. A helpful add-on.

They will give you the MapSource DVD for free. Make sure to register the unit online. They may ask you to pay $15. If so, decline and call back later. You'll get someone else who will give it to you. I got mine on the first call. Its also easy to unlock. After they put your order in, you'll see a code when you login to "My Garmin" (thats why I recommend registering the device). Its a piece of cake to install. I use MapSource extensively and its pretty easy to use.

MapSource question

Everybody mentions that MapSource can be gotten from Garmin either for free or for a $15 charge. I downloaded something from Garmin this week, and when it finished installing, lo and behold! there was a new folder called "MapSource" that had been created. Within that folder is exactly one file and it's name is "MapSource_6136". It's 45mg, so it's a fairly large file. Is this the MapSource that everyone's been talking about? BTW, I didn't download anything that I had to pay for.

What you downloaded is the program update. You can't use that unless you have the full MapSource program installed on your computer. Call Garmin and tell them you need MapSource to "manage your Favorites". They will send it to you on disk. Most people have gotten it for free.

I installed the _6136 file

I get an error that tells me to install a Mapsource Map product. I'll keep working on it.

.

If you are getting that error, it's because you don't a have full version of MapSource installed on your computer. You need to call Garmin and ask them to send it to you.
