What files to add?

Does anyone have any recommendations about which files to add to a new 650? We will be full time RVing and I want to add RV parks and whatever else might be suggested but I am VERY confused by the list of options. Suggestions for the best files would be appreciated.

I'm a new user here with a c530 and eTrex

I'm a new user here and have been looking for POI files for my c530. Looked for lists of Michigan lighthouse files for my wife. I found this list and got what I needed. Thanks.

I'm also wondering if it's possible to import my saved waypoints from an eTrex to my c530.

Hard to say

Everyone is going to have different needs. Ask yourself what might be valuble to you. And you certainly don't have to pick them all at once. I assume you have a laptop and you'll have Internet access from time to time. As you travel, you'll start to say things like "I'd really like to know where the Such&Such store is". That'll help you decide what to add later. The Rest Area file is probably one you'll want right away.

Waypoints from eTrex

I used mapsource to get the waypoints from my eTrex Vista and then imported them into my nuvi 660.

English?

smbishop I have no idea what you just said? grin

Files you need

As an RVr myself, one of the first you should load, would be the combined rest areas file. Tells you where they all are. I set mine up to alert me when within two miles, so you have plenty of time to work your way into the correct lane.

RV'ers

I also have a Class A, but I do not fulltime yet. The particular files I download and use include:
(1) The low clearance POI's - I setup a 2 mile notification for these so I can find a detour.
(2) The various truck stops (I use diesel)
(3) The prime fuel outlets
(4) Rest Stops - I setup a 2 mile notification so I can be sure I'm in the correct lane.
(5) Any "attractions" that I may be near

For CG's, I generally use Trailer Life's software, or their web site, Woodall's, and searching online with Google. Then, I get the GPS coordinates from the CG, or use Google Earth, and enter them as a "favorite" in my 650.

Mapsource disk

Axlmyk. You may have gotten the Mapsource disk with your Etrex..I know I did..It is a great program to help manage some Waypoints. You can upload them from your Etrex and then transfer them back to your 530..If you dont have the disk most people have been able to get one free just for asking..and tell them that you have an Etex...and they should send one..

Zecpull and smbishop:
Thanks for the info. I ordered mapsource City Nav. 2008 from Amazon last night and should have it by Thursday.

I have spent today playing with my c530. Sears had it on sale for $199. I downloaded POI files, some lighthouse icons, and created some lighthouse alert sound files. Edited some duplicate entries, and have uploaded them to the SD card I put in the unit. This is going to be fun for this retired guy.

I found out how to install a picture of my Wife and I for the splash screen, and from reading many of the forums here, I locked the unit away from home.

This is a great forum, and I look forward to being an active member contributing and soaking up information.

I do have 2 questions (for now) about the SPc530.
I have used my eTrex to plug into my laptop and plot our position while traveling on trains, planes, and automobiles. Is it possible to do this with the c530?

And last but not least, is it possible to pull up coordinates on the c530?

Hope I didn't hijack this thread too bad.

Splash Screen

I have a family picture as my splash screen. I also edited the picture in Microsoft Paint with a text box that reads "If found:" with my cell # & e-mail address.

Don't think you can connect your c530 to your laptop to plot your position.

I can pull up coordinates on the 660 from the satelite screen, not sure about the c530.
