On Garmin Nuvi 650: I recently used the software from Garmin - POI Loader and added some POI files that started as CSVs on my computer. In the directory with the CSV, I placed a BMP with the same name. When viewing the map on the Nuvi, at the POI location, there seemed to be two icons competing for the space. A dot, like when there is a POI, and the icon I uploaded with the POI file. Is this the behavior your GPS exhibits? Suggestions?

May already be there
If a POI is already there with the loaded map, you may see two POIs.
Chuck - Nuvi 200, Nuvi 255W
It may be that when you
It may also be that when you touched "show map" to go to the POI the arrow pointer is resting directly on top of the custom POI icon. If so, you will see the information relating to where the arrow is pointing directly on top of the POI name so you will see the name twice. Just move the arrow away to see if this is the case.

icons
The icons view much different in 2D versus 3D mode. POI icons work better on my 660 in 2D.
FIgured it out!
My problem was that I had the wrong bit depth. 8 bits is sometimes called 24 bits if the program is counting 8 bits of each of three channels of color. 3 times 8 is.... 24.... I was saving at a lower bit depth to save space. Garmins choke on that!
