My initial impression of Nuvi 750-route display not what I hoped for

I finally got my gps-I decided on Nuvi 750. I was even initially impressed it somehow located where I lived even though it was only powered up indoors-strange. Anyway, not sure how to edit the home location as far as an actual street address. Anyway what I am impressed with is how well it knows where you are, even on an entrance ramp on freeway versus actual freeway. Satellite finding (start-up) is a little slow, several minutes it seems.

Anyway my main feelinsg now, are ,besides manual is very poor, I mean the start-up one is only included and the on-line one seems very minimal considering this unit lists for $700, is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of user options-i.e. route planning and display.

My main questions for garmin users, or any other brands also, is when you are "en route", there is no display of speed or direction. Granted I can get that by pressing one button, but I like the "default" map display when not en route. Is there a way to display the speeed and direction when going on a route? Does other brands have that-it bothers me enough I may sell this unit. Also, on simulator mode, which seems odd "simulate" is under "settings", as when that is on you can't do a normal route while driving, so I would think it would be more intuitive to have just another button for simulate after choosing a destination. Also when simulating, again the direction (west, etc.) is not given so it is hard to follow, not to mention SLOW. I wonder if there is a way to speed up the sim mode.

Nuvi 750

Yeah, there's a lot of

Yeah, there's a lot of detractors in the Nuvi line up. Unfortunately, the data fields are not customizable. Maybe Garmin is taking this shortcut since so many cars these days have electronic compasses and all of them have speedometers.

I don't find this too much of a problem by not having speed and direction when navigating to a destination. All I need to do is follow the yellow, um, magenta brick road and turn by turn directions. I'll get there. grin

Not sure of Nuvi, but

On the c530, if you are in mapview and not headed to a particular location, the time to destination in the lower left changes to speed.
