Alerts don't always trigger?

I noticed that for some reason the Alert proximity alarm sometimes doesn't alert until I am on the intersection?

Is that something I can fix?

Is there a way to have it alert only going one direction at the intersection and not the other?

ie - the speed/red light camera only points North and there isn't one pointing for southbound traffic.

Reload the camera POI file

Reload the camera POI file manually and just increase the alert distance.

Alert distances

I'm not sure which of your devices you are using, but on my Garmins I use the poi loader in manual mode. It will then give you the option for each "file" if you want a speed or prox alert or not. You can then set how many feet from the point you want the alert. Best I can tell it is only a point and radius around the point. Travel direction doesn't matter.

I travel mostly in kansas and few towns have traffic lights - let alone cameras smile So I have not had a chance to mess with that file.

Probably ;-)

POI Loader doesn't support directional alerts (but the unit does...) You might be able to get the desired effect by shifting it off to one side of the road, but allowing for satellite error etc, it might be difficult to get it to work reliably.

thanks everyone...

I will give it a whirl and reload using POI manually... I think the database maybe corrupt anyway so doing it again may solve it. I am going to edit it anyway because I want to change the descriptions to be the Street Intersection names

Garmin 340 manual load

I have the basic Garmin 340. Can I manually load Red Light POIs on this and change their parameters? If so - how? I think I have read all the related posts to find this and have not been lucky.

I will will soon be making several trips between Clover, SC and Jacksonville, NC and would like to use the red light POIs file.

You can load the file to that unit, but what do you mean when you ask "change their parameters"?

Changing parameters

I meant can you change the distances from the camera to where the GPS (Streetpilot 340) will alert you. Example: If the GPS is set to alert you in 3 tenths of a mile can you change it to 5 tenths of a mile or another distance?

I guess you would have to change anything in the POI file prior to being loaded to GPS from the POI file. Sorry for the confusion - just hope I didn't futher the confusion any more.

No problem. I just didn't want to give you the wrong answer and confuse you even more.

If you run POI Loader in Manual Mode instead of Express Mode, you can set the alert distance at whatever you want up to 37 miles.

However, in using this method, you will be setting the same distance for all the locations in that particular file.

You can't change any of the parameters for the alerts on the unit. You would need to reload them and change them with POI Loader or change the file itself prior to running POI Loader.

Thanks

Thanks.

I will try that this week and see how how it works out. Fine I'm sure. As you can see I'm new to the POI forum. I have been playing with Lowrance handheld GPS for a long time, but had never even considered a GPS like the Garmin C340 Streetpilot. My purchace was dictated by funding. So far it has meet all my needs; however, not desires.

Will the red light function

Will the red light function work with C330?

Yes.

Which Direction ...

In the red camera file which I downloaded from POI-Factory, camera locations are at middel of the intersection itself (As far as I noticed). So, I have alerts in all directions (I tested it today). I wouldn't mind getting alerts in all directions because the camera locations can be changed to either sides without notice, right?!

To upload the file, I used the manual upload accompained by icon and sound files.
