Custom Icon for Nuvi 350

I have tried and tried and can not get custom icon to come up in mapsource. I have saved the icon as a bitmap in the folder and have named it 000. What am I doing wrong?

First, take a breath

Good, you've read the directions. You have found the folder ►my doc's ►my garmin ►custom waypoint symbols

There are initially 8 default "templates" which you can modify. You can modify as you wish as long as you keep them 16x16 or 24x24 and up to 32-bit color. That's per the Help file...but 22x22 also works.

After you modify, you have to "save as" using 000 thru 063 as the name and in bmp format. Again, make sure your program is saving in bmp format, and either 16, 24, or 32-bit color.

Save the modified bmp back to the "custom waypoint symbols" folder.

If Mapsource is open, close it then reopen.

create a waypoint, using the "waypoint tool" or "edit ► new waypoint"

In the "waypoint properties" box click the "symbol" button and scroll to the bottom and under "custom" you should see the newly created icon.

Piece 'O' cake

Hope this helps.

Custom icons transfeter to Nuvi 350

Please do not shoot.
I cannot figure out if it is possible to transfer custom made waypoints icons to the unit. I can easily create new icons in MapSource (these look neat), but these do not appear in the unit after transferring waypoints.

Thank you

Damiani,

In order to transfer the custom icon, it needs to be saved as a bitmap to the same folder as the associated gpx file. It must also have the same name as the gpx file (example.gpx and example.bmp). I believe this icon then becomes the icon for all the waypoints in gpx file. Then when you use the POI Loader to transfer the gpx file to the unit, the icon will follow.

Hope this helps,
Jimmykre
