Tomtom ONE LE or Garmin Nuvi 200? Which should I choose?

Hi,

Between these two units, which of these has the foreign language voice (Chinese-Cantonese)?

I tried to look up info for these units on the web and was confused by different versions of Tomtom (ONE, ONE 3rd edition). And LE edition wasn't mentioned much.

As for Garmin Nuvi 200, it mentioned some "language pack" as accessory (if i remember correctly). Does it include the Cantonese voice by default or I have to purchase the "language pack"?

If anyone know anything about these 2 units, I appreciate your help. I would prefer not to open the GPS' boxes and get hit with a 15% restocking fee to find out. Thanks.

I suggest you do this...

1) for language specific questions - Cantonese or not - I suggest you either contact TomTom or Garmin directly.

2) for general info about gps, an excellent website for product comparisons and forum discussions:

you can use chinese voice for both units

hey niluso,

both the garmin nuvi 200 and tomtom one has chinese as an option for a voice selection. they both have cantonese and mandarin but they don't come standard. you will have to download these voice packages and install them. don't worry though, these are free and will not cost you anything.

i live in california in the san jose area and i find that the garmin is a lot more accurate. it uses navteq as a mapbase whereas tomtom uses teleatlas. i can talk about this all day, but it comes down to me saying that the garmin is a better unit for use here in the states. let me know if you have any other questions.

the near eternal navteq vs teleatlas debate

which is better depends on your geographic area. Neither system is perfect, each has errors.

It is otherwise foolish to make such blanket statements as "teleatlas is better" or "navteq is better." smile

In determining which is better in your area, your test is flawed unless you're using the most uptodate maps from either vendor.

Where to download cantonese voice package for Nuvi 200?

Can you please direct me to where I can download the cantonese and mandarin voice package for the Garmin Nuvi 200 please?

Thanks.

all you have to do is

all you have to do is connect your nuvi to the computer and run the web updater application which can be downloaded from the garmin website. the first time you run the updater application you'll probably have to update your nuvi's firmware. once thats done just turn your nuvi off and on again, run the updater a second time and this time you should see a list of languages that you can download. shouldn't be too hard at all. if you have anymore questions feel free to ask...hope this helps, and have fun with your new gps!
