I have seen all the low cost GPS receivers advertised for Christmas some as low as 99 dollars. I wonder how they perform compared to say a Garmin Nuvi series. Would love to hear from everyone here who has gotten one of these models. Like to hear not only how it performs but what features the units have.
Still love my Nuvi but gotta love a 99 dollar GPS!
I didn't get a $99 unit but purchased a Magellan Maestro for 170. Just a plain jane without the bells and whistles but seems to work great.
I have a Mio 230, and it has been dropping in price. It is a basic system and includes voice navigation. I was in Myrtle Beach this past week and I didn't think the PoI were that great. I see other people complaining about odd things that GPS units do, and the Mio did some odd things. One example, instead of having me take the South bound exit it wanted me to stay on the highway, take the emergency vehicle U-turn across the median and then take the North bound exit. But otherwise it seemed to work well.
It is my first GPS unit so I can't compare it to anything else.
Heres the instructions--http://c230.wordpress.com/
Mostly it works.Includes a Media player, notepad, and a game. There still working on it and should have another release coming up.
Mio c230 uses windows CE
Thank you. I have been there, and tried it... a few times, and couldn't get it to work. One time I put the script folder in the wrong directory. The other time it said it didn't have enough space so I moved the map files onto the storage card. The third time it wouldn't get past the first menu.
and that worked first try. I liked the first option better because of notepad. The second option doesn't offer much more than a media player.
