SO I just bought this. IT is my first gps unit.
2 questions. The Nuvi 200 had more updated poi then this unit. The display model NUVI 200 had a new best buy that was built listed, but this 660 did not. Why is the info different, and can I get it to be the same info as the Nuvi 200?
Also I have the cig. adaptor plugged in, but I get no traffic. Every time I check it says traffic can't be displayed I live in a major city so I know they have it. Does it take 48 hours or something? It says I have service until 2008. What gives?
The link below will take you to the TMC coverage map that shows the coverage in your area, if available. The traffic information should be received as soon as you plug in the 12v power/traffic receiver into the accessory power outlet.
I don't know about the differences in the built-in POI lists, but if you have an address I will look in my 660 or 760 to see if the Best Buy in question is there on mine.
OK first. To see if you received signal in your area just check your status lights on the 12v power trafic receiver. Should be(GREEN).Not yellow. If green and you are sure your are into the covering area , the last reason will be that your free time is already expired.I hope not if you have a new one.
For your POI , difference between the 200 and 660 is impossible , i mean it should not. Original POI should be the same. The problem is probably your map version. Check if both has the same NT 2008.Go to SETTINGS > MAP>MAP INFO and view the map loaded on your NUVI and their versions.
I am geting both green lights, but it says there is no traffic data avavablie. WHich I know there is.
also the map version says 2008. Where does the unit get the list of say Best Buys, Starbucks, etc. from? How does this get updated when new things come out?
They get updated with the new map releases. Since that is only once a year, that is why we like custom POIs and hence the popularity of this site.
A little off topic, but I was wondering if you guys are getting pretty good battery life. I'm only getting about 2.5 hours with brightness at 40%. It seems a little less than the advertised 7 hours. What's the battery life been for you guys?
I presume you're talking about a 660 so... low battery life? disable WAAS; set the backlight timeout to 1 minute; if the unit is on the cradle and NOT plugged into cigarette lighter, the battery is powering the traffic receiver as well.
I've run into something with my c550 and traffic... the way you and I get to the traffic info are different but sometimes my traffic icon will be "grayed" out, which won't allow me to access traffic info. I got a message but can't remember exactly, something like option not available or something to that affect. I've had to turn off the unit and unplug the traffic receiver from cig lighter outlet, then plug back in and start over. Sometimes I've had to do this two or three times. Not sure what the cause was, but hasn't done it lately. It only seemed to do it for about a two week period. Haven't had it happen lately.
