c550 won't turn on

I just came home for the holidays and started using my dad's c550 that hasn't been used for months. I turned it on and it flickered off. I thought it ran out of batteries and so I plugged it in. Nothing happened. It didn't charge and it didn't turn on. I'm afraid it's broken. Any suggestions?

The battery might be toast

The battery might be toast or just drained down to an unusable level. Does it work with the car charger or USB instead of the AC charger? I read that some Nuvis will only work/charge on the USB if the battery is severely drained. Just leave it charging for a day or two and see what happens. If it was only a few months, that shouldn't be long enough to cause the battery to go bad, unless it was completely discharged prior to going into long term storage.

If that doesn't work, they seem pretty easy to crack open and install a new battery ordered from the 'net.

He is correct, you need to

He is correct, you need to try to charge it via the usb port (not the cradle) and see if that works for ya!

it works now

Thanks for all the suggestions. I kept it plugged in. Shook it a few times. Left it on my kitchen table for a day. Finally, when I plugged it in again, it turned on!

I'm thinking the battery was loose, or it lost it's charge. Either way, it works now. Thanks!

Battery

was probably extremely dead. Letting it charge for a while brought it up to a level where the machine would turn on.

Agreed. Don't think it was a loose connection, but rather a very dead battery.

Never had a C550, just being curious: why did you have "to pop the face plate off" to reset it? it seems that all units do allow a hard reset from the outside... but I may be wrong about.
