Nissan Altima Owners

I have a Nuvi 650 that I use (mostly) in my Altima. Sticks to the windshield, never any problem. However, reading all the posts concerning theft, I’m thinking that maybe I could mount the thing in a compartment on my dash. The car already has a handy place for it, I think that’s where they put the OEM GPS unit. (Pictures open in a new window.)

The compartment - CLOSED
The compartment - OPEN

As you can see, it’s almost a natural. I thought for sure I’d have to spring for an external antenna, and perform some kind of demolition, but the flipped-up antenna slides right through the compartment door, holds it right in place! And I get all bars and 14 foot accuracy! Hell, I don’t even need no stinkin’ antenna! And there’s room to stash the power cord when parked, then I just close the compartment door. So anybody with a similar Altima, give it a try. The compartment door doesn’t lock, but it’s still a measure better than leaving it out in the open.

Cool

But I'm still not going out and getting an altima!

May want to remove it

If I was a thief and wanted a nüvi 650, I know where to look.

In less than 5 minutes I found out what town you live in, where you work, where you get your car repaired, two electronic stores you shop at, the car you drive, interior color, where you keep your GPS, and best of all ... your initials (all from this forum). Just a suggestion.

Also....

You might also note that I almost NEVER take the keys out of my car at night, have been here for 25 years and never have had a problem. I'm a trusting soul, what can I say.

Besides, I have this guarding everything....

Awww heck, I could break into your car, get the GPSr and leave before you could load and fire it....lol. If it is already loaded, well, I might be blown up, but so would your car and GPSr...lol.

NO PLACE is safe in New Joisy. And, no, do don't have anything like that guarding your stuff. Heck, people can't even get a concealed carry permit in NJ. Or carry hollowpoints... I hate the socialist republik of New Jerseystan. Going to USNA in Maryland was bad enough. The only thing I've ever enjoyed with anything having to do with NJ was watching The Sopranos. I despised having to go to the Meadowlands for the Army/Navy games.

You must be talking about

You must be talking about NORTH Joisey.... I'm in SOUTH Joisey, a whole lot different. And I'm not in the slightest worried about anybody "popping" me. Believe me, I know what's up.

Well, like I say, I'm not

Well, like I say, I'm not worried at all. There are too many other things to worry about.
