I'm getting the error that this file is invalid/corrupt when I use POI loader. Has anyone else had this problem? The file size looks very small to me compared to many others and I'm just wondering if the upload got corrupted?
Thanks
Hmmmmmm
That's because there's a bad line in the file, it looks like. Open up the file and remove the following line and see if it works then:
-80.876,32.62183,,

fixed
I have made that correction to the file and haver re-uploaded it to the site. Thanks.
Miss Poi
Nope, POI loader still says
Nope, POI loader still says it's an "invalid" file so I guess I'll just keep pulling my KOA directory out of the saddlebags when I make a gas stop.
Perhaps, it's line 1

The title line. I have many .CSV files with title lines that won't load so I have to delete that line.

Several Problems
Although this file loads OK in the nuvi 350, it has several problems.
1. Headers not removed.
2. Four lines with no field 3.
3. Field 4 is nothing but a duplicate of field 3.
4. One pair of duplicate entries (lines 46 & 61 after header is removed).
POI Verifier will find most errors.

That fixed it
The title line removal fixed it. Sadly, it's not nearly as complete as it needs to be to actually be considered "nationwide" coverage. It's a shame that so many corporate headquarters do not realize how much business they could generate by publishing POI date for their locations. I travel by the "seat of my pants" with no set schedule or route and I would love to be able to instantly find things like KOA, Sonic Drive-In's , etc. that are useful for a guy that tours and camps on a motorcycle.
Oh well, anything is MUCH better than nothing at all.

SKooter
ok
I will take another look at it and get it fixed along with the other files that RT let me know about a few days ago.
I got the flu over the weekend and am just now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I expect to be fully functional tomorrow.

Miss POI, I corrected the above problems, ran the file through POI Verifier, and sent it to you.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. I do hope you'll be "fully functional" tomorrow.
Do take care.

POI Verifier question
If I run POI Verifier on a .csv file...
doesn't POI Verifier correct the problems?
Hope you are feeling better
Hi Miss POI,
Sorry to hear you were sick with the flu. Hope you are feeling better now. I had a cold right after Columbus Day and it took me over two weeks to get over it. I then went out and got my annual flu shot.

POI Verifier
Redirecttechnician you made a great little program. Anyone on this site that makes POI files for upload should get a copy for the $6 price. Thanks for all your efforts to keep these POI files clean and providing correct info.

Doesn't fix all of them
POI Verifier corrects some minor format problems but it can't fix bad coordinates, repeat coordinates, and will let you know that certain format errors exist by telling you what line the error is in .
In general, it doesn't correct the problems - it tells you that a problem exists.
I will tell you one thing - POI Verifier saved me hours of work when I was working on the combined rest areas files.
An extremely useful tool if you are constructing POI .csv files !
RT dun good writing that software !

If I run POI Verifier on a .csv file...
doesn't POI Verifier correct the problems?
Thanks, FREDL and MrKenFl, for the kind words.
The main issues POI Verifier corrects are:
1. Removes the text header at the beginning of the file (apparently what skooter.bum's problem was).
2. Removes embedded quotes, which often causes loading problems.
3. Removes all fields over four, which is the maximum allowed for Garmin's format.
4. Since Garmin's proper format is 'fill all used fields when blank', a space is inserted in blank field 3 (and 4 if used).
5. Field 3 (and 4 if used) are enclosed in quotes.
Main issues POI Verifier warns of (indicating line numbers with problems) are:
1. Incorrect Latitude and Longitude entries, which usually are reversed Longitude/Latitude or missing negative sign in Longitude.
2. Possible duplicate entries. (Won't remove as they may be two different stores in the same mall, two different radio/tv stations on the same tower, etc.)
Other selectable options:
1. Remove numbers in file name to eliminate unwanted alerts.
2. Modify LF/CRs to display linebreaks correctly on nuvi 350 and nuvi 360.
3. Remove all LF/CRs, (required for some programs).
4. Extracts POI entries and creates additional POI files based on the coordinates of user-selected States or Providences.
More info can be had at POI Verifier. Hope this helps.
