So I have added some nightclubs in town that are not being found when I do a regular nightclub/bar search.
Is there a way for my custom POI's to appear simply based on keyword relevance in my "Where To" searches?
Jon,,
custom poi
Hi, custom poi is not searchable. the only way to search it is by going to extract/custom poi.
You can do a spell check
Assumming you have added your custom POIs via POI Loader, when looking in your custom POIs, you can do a spell check. Alternatively, f you have them in a folder structure, once you select that category, you will see the 50 closest to your location ordered by distance.

custom POI's being searchable when looking for destination point
well that stinks, thanks for the quick response

that is what I was hoping
so if I am looking for a restaurant near by that is not appearing in a proximity search then if I do a spell name search it should appear?
Because I believe I have tried this and the custom restaurant POI I have added does not come up when doing a search by spell name

With the 350, you can
With the 350, you can "Spell" the name out (for the Custom POIs" and find them (if you have loaded them of course). I believe your original question was can you incorporate the custom pois with the internal ones. If that is what you were asking, the answer is no. In other words, you will have to do 2 searches, one in the internal POIs and a second one in the custom POIs.

thank you
yea I was asking originally about searching for and finding my custom POIs in the regular "Internal" search.
So I will have to do 2 searches, one for internal results and one for custom POIs
thanks for the final answer
any plans on changing this in future?
Do we know if the NA NTV8 will improve on this?

yea, I wish Garmin would
yea, I wish Garmin would listen to anyone that owns their products and make enhancements to their gps systems to allow such thing as looking for stuff not only in the internal database of poi's, but also in the user ones. Don't think anyone at Garmin listens though.

Because of the way the these two different databases are programmed and stored in the unit, I don't think that you will ever be able to have this.
I personally am grateful that Garmin's programming allows us to fairly easily add them Custom POI locations, and it only seems like a very minor issue to have to search them individually.
I know what POI files I have loaded on my unit, so if I'm looking for a Target for instance, I would search my Custom POIs first since I'm fairly sure that those locations are more updated than the built-in ones.
I agree
I agree with MM whole heartedly ! Last year when I took "Lila" on our 11,500 mile trip thru 33 states I didn't even have any Custom POI's installed on my C330
and I found almost everything I wanted with the built-in POIs.
I find it very easy to look for my preferred stores, rest areas, truck gas stops and Restaurants (sorry MM - no Krispy Kremes, I realize that is blasphemy) with the Custom POI's installed. Either way it's certainly far easier than looking on a map etc.
