Can i setup my own POI?

You can sure set up your own Custom POI's and upload them to your GPSr with POI Loader from Garmin.
Look under the FAQ sections and thru the various threads regarding generating Custom POIs. A ton of info and "how to do" is at this site !

I'm also new to POIs.
Here's the quick version of how I made my first POI.

1. Create a Favorites list using the GPS (Nuvi 680)
2. Using MAPSOURCE by Garmin, upload the Favorites list into the Waypoints tab.
3. Using MAPSOURCE, save the file as a *.GPX naming it something like "MyRestaurants.GPX".
4. Using POI Loader by Garmin, download your new poi file to the GPS.

The Mapsource bit's not strictly necessary. You could just copy the \Garmin\gpx\current.gpx off the Nüvi (renaming it at the same time). It's already in a form that POI Loader understands.

However, if you want to make some changes to it first, that's another matter.
